[Termes IGN] vue 3DRésumé : (Auteur) The authors have developed a new method termed "Polygon Shift Method" that enables the generation of a 3D view map of a city with tall buildings with a simplified procedure to shift a polygon and check the overlap between the original and shifted polygon. Boolean operations are applied with a newly defined "Fore or Aft" side and a "Depth Distance" that functionally express the visibility criteria or hidden point processing in the 3D view. Since the polygon shift method can be operated with a raster-based structure, the computer processing for generation of a 3D view map of buildings with shadow is simple and efficient. [Termes IGN] SOLAPRésumé : (Auteur) The polygon amalgamation operation computes the boundary of the union of a set of polygons. This is an important operation for spatial on-line analytical processing and spatial data mining, where polygons representing different spatial objects often need to be amalgamated by varying criteria when the user wants to aggregate or reclassify these objects. The processing cost of this operation can be very high for a large number of polygons. Based on the observation that not all polygons to be amalgamated contribute to the boundary, we investigate in this paper efficient polygon amalgamation methods by excluding those internal polygons without retrieving them from the database. Two novel algorithms, adjacency-based and occupancy-based, are proposed. While both algorithms can reduce the amalgamation cost significantly, the occupancy-based algorithm is particularly attractive because : 1) it retrieves a smaller amount of data than the adjacency-based algorithm ; 2) it is based on a simple extension to a commonly used spatial indexing mechanism ; and 3) it can handle fuzzy amalgamation. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper we describe a procedure for generating building models from large scale vector maps and laser altimeter data. First the vector map is analyzed to group the outlines of buildings and to obtain a hierarchical description of buildings or building complexes. The base area is used to mask the elevation data of single buildings and to derive a coarse 31)-description by prismatic models. Afterwards, details of the roof are analyzed. Based on the histogram of heights, flat roofs and sloped roofs are discriminated. For reconstructing flat roofs with superstructures, peaks are searched in the histogram and used to segment the height data. Compact segments are examined for a regular shape and approximated by additional prismatic objects. For reconstructing sloped roofs, the gradient field of the elevation data is calculated and a histogram of orientations is determined. Major orientations in the histogram are detected and used to segment the elevation image. For each segment containing homogeneous orientations and slopes, a spatial plane is fitted and a 3D-contour is constructed. In order to obtain a polygonal description, adjacent planes are intersected and common vertices are calculated. [Termes IGN] qualité géométrique (image)Résumé : (auteur) The production of geographic information is a complex process that can not be considered as deterministic because several digitization produce several different data sets. Geographic Information Systems enable the handling of various data, which have to be matched prior to their use. This paper presents a geometric matching algorithm for polygonal surfaces. Our thought process is to handle the surface in itself without focusing on the information about its contour. This algorithm is based on a mathematical distance between polygons. This distance makes it possible to compute two thresholds and a matching table that is defined as a list of polygons from one data set that may be matched to polygons of the other data set. The thresholds are considered as the tuning parameters of this algorithm. They are used to filter the matching table in order to eliminate non-relevant links to produce the matching. The matching process takes into account various cardinality such as 1:1 or 1:n or n:l. Based on the matching table, a quality map of a controlled data set has been produced. This quality assessment is based on a similar measurement of the mathematical distance between polygons. This algorithm has been tested and validated on various data sets, including the land-use layer of French Cartographic Database BDCarto® and Corine Land-Cover Database, or buildings from the French Topographic database BDTopo® and the French Cadaster. This paper presents also the results of these tests.
