[Termes descripteurs IGN] zone boréaleRésumé : (auteur) Geo-located travel blogs, a new data source, enable to achieve more detailed analysis of tourists' spatio-temporal behavior. Taking Chinese tourists in Nordic countries as the research object, this paper focuses on their behavior, seasonal patterns and complex network effects by using geo-located travel blog data collected from Qunar.com. The results show that: (1) Chinese tourists visiting Nordic countries are often experienced in traveling. The local climate during the cold season does not prevent them from pursuing the aurora scenery. (2) The travel behavior of Chinese tourists is spatially heterogeneous. The network analysis reveals that Iceland showcases stronger, compared to the other Nordic countries, community independence and small world effect. (3) During the warm season, Chinese tourists choose a variety of destinations, while in cold season, they tend to choose destinations with higher chances for spotting the northern lights. These results provide helpful information for the tourism management departments of Nordic countries to improve their marketing and development efforts directed for Chinese tourists. [Termes descripteurs IGN] TwitterRésumé : (auteur) The research focuses on detecting tourist flows in the Province of Styria in Austria based on crowdsourced data. Twitter data were collected in the time range from 2008 until August 2018. Extracted tweets were submitted to an extensive filtering process within non-relational database MongoDB. Hotspot Analysis and Kernel Density Estimation methods were applied, to investigate spatial distribution of tourism relevant tweets under temporal variations. Furthermore, employing the VADER method an integrated semantic analysis provides sentiments of extracted tweets. Spatial analyses showed that detected Hotspots correspond to typical Styrian touristic areas. Apart from mainly successful sentiment analysis, it pointed out also a problematic aspect of working with multilingual data. For evaluation purposes, the official tourism data from the Province of Styria and federal Statistical Office of Austria played a role of ground truth data. An evaluation with Pearson’s correlation coefficient was employed, which proves a statistically significant correlation between Twitter data and reference data. In particular, the paper shows that crowdsourced data on a regional level can serve as accurate indicator for the behaviour and movement of users. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Road-network data compression or simplification reduces the size of the network to occupy less storage with the aim to fit small form-factor routing devices, mobile devices, or embedded systems. Simplification (a) reduces the storage cost of memory and disks, and (b) reduces the I/O and communication overhead. There are several road network compression techniques proposed in the literature. These techniques are evaluated by their compression ratios. However, none of these techniques takes into consideration the possibility that the generated compressed data can be used directly in Map-matching operation which is an essential component for all location-aware services. Map-matching matches a measured latitude and longitude of an object to an edge in the road network graph. In this paper, we propose a novel simplification technique, named COMA, that (1) significantly reduces the size of a given road network graph, (2) achieves high map-matching quality on the simplified graph, and (3) enables the generated compressed road network graph to be used directly in map-matching and location-based applications without a need to decompress it beforehand. COMA smartly deletes those nodes and edges that will not affect the graph connectivity nor causing much of ambiguity in the map-matching of objects’ location. COMA employs a controllable parameter; termed a conflict factor C, whereby location aware services can trade the compression gain with map-matching accuracy at varying granularity. We show that the time complexity of our COMA algorithm is O(|N|log|N|). Intensive experimental evaluation based on a real implementation and data demonstrates that COMA can achieve about a 75% compression-ratio while preserving high map-matching quality. [Termes descripteurs IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The outreach of Wi-Fi localization is extended in this study for urban wide applications as they provide the high potential to employ them for numerous applications for localization and guidance in urban environments. The selected application presented in this paper is the localization and routing of public transport smartphone users. For the conducted investigations, Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) values are collected for users who are travelling from home in a residential neighbourhood to work in the city centre and return along the same route. Special tramway trains are selected which provide two on-board Wi-Fi Access Points (APs). Firstly, the availability, visibility and RSSI stability of the Wi-Fi signal behavior of these APs and the APs in the surrounding environment along the routes is analyzed. Then the trajectories are estimated based on location fingerprinting. A first analyses reveals that significant differences exists between the six employed smartphones as well as times of the day, e. g. in the morning at peak hours or at off-peak hours. From the long-time observations it is seen that the two on-board APs show a high stability of the RSSI signals at the same times of the day and along the whole route. It is therefore currently investigated how they can confirm and validate user localization along the route and if they can contribute to constrain the overall positioning solution in combination with the inertial smartphone sensors. Moreover, the railway track can serve as a further constraint. As an outlook on future work, the development of a Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) solution with a fusion with the smartphone inertial sensors is proposed. [Termes descripteurs IGN] localisation basée visionRésumé : (auteur) Image indexing for lifelong localization is a key component for a large panel of applications, including robot navigation, autonomous driving or cultural heritage valorization. The principal difficulty in long-term localization arises from the dynamic changes that affect outdoor environments. In this work, we propose a new approach for outdoor large scale image-based localization that can deal with challenging scenarios like cross-season, cross-weather and day/night localization. The key component of our method is a new learned global image descriptor, that can effectively benefit from scene geometry information during training. At test time, our system is capable of inferring the depth map related to the query image and use it to increase localization accuracy. We show through extensive evaluation that our method can improve localization performances, especially in challenging scenarios when the visual appearance of the scene has changed. Our method is able to leverage both visual and geometric clues from monocular images to create discriminative descriptors for cross-season localization and effective matching of images acquired at different time periods. Our method can also use weakly annotated data to localize night images across a reference dataset of daytime images. Finally we extended our method to reflectance modality and we compare multi-modal descriptors respectively based on geometry, material reflectance and a combination of both.
