[Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (Auteur) A useful technique in various applications of remote sensing involves the fusion of panchromatic and multispectral satellite images. Recently, Tu et al. introduced a fast intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) fusion method. Aside from its fast computing capability for fusing images, this method can extend traditional three-order transformations to an arbitrary order. It can also quickly merge massive volumes of data by requiring only resampled multispectral data. However, fast IHS fusion also distorts color in the same way as fusion processes such as the IHS fusion technique. To overcome this problem, the minimization problem for a fast IHS method was considered and the method proposed by Gonzalez-Audicana et al. is presented as a solution. However, the method is not efficient enough to quickly merge massive volumes of data from satellite images. The author therefore uses a tradeoff parameter in a new approach to image fusion based on fast IHS fusion. This approach enables fast, easy implementation. Furthermore, the tradeoff between the spatial and spectral resolution of the image to be fused can be easily controlled with the aid of the tradeoff parameter. Therefore, with an appropriate tradeoff parameter, the new approach provides a satisfactory result, both visually and quantitatively. [Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (Auteur) The main topic of this paper is high-resolution image fusion. The techniques used to merge high spatial resolution panchromatic images with high spectral resolution multispectral images are described. The most commonly used image fusion methods that work on the principle of component substitution (intensity-hue-saturation method (ms), Brovey transform (bt), and multiplicative method (multi)) have been applied to Ikonos, QuickBird, Landsat, and aerial orthophoto images. Visual comparison, histogram analyses, correlation coefficients, and difference images were used in order to analyze the spectral and spatial qualities of the fused images. It was discovered that for preserving spectral characteristics, one needs a high level of similarity between the panchromatic image and the respective multispectral intensity. In order to achieve this, spectral sensitivity of multispectral and panchromatic data was performed, and digital values in individual bands have been modified before fusion. It has also been determined that spatial resolution is best preserved in the event of an unchanged input panchromatic image. [Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (Auteur) The preservation of spectral characteristics and the retention of high spatial resolution are two key issues in image fusion. Different applications may require different balances between the two. However, the limitation is that only one fused result is possible for most of the commonly used fusion methods; users have no control over how much spatial detail or spectral information should be retained. Both quantitative and qualitative criteria, including mean, standard deviation, entropy, average gradient, spectral distortion, correlation coefficient and visual assessment, were used to evaluate the performance of the proposed fuser. A SPOT (Satellite Pour l'Observation de la Terre) panchromatic image and Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) images were employed in the evaluation. The results show that the proposed method is slightly better than, or comparable to, commonly used image fusion methods, including Intensity-Hue-Saturation (IHS), principal component analysis (PCA), and two other wavelet-based fusion methods with replacement and with selection strategies, in terms of spectral characteristic preservation and high spatial resolution retention. Moreover, the proposed method can achieve a wide range of balances between spectral characteristic preservation and high spatial resolution retention, and thus is applicable in different applications. [Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (Auteur) There are many image fusion methods that can be used to produce high-resolution multispectral images from a high-resolution panchromatic image and low-resolution mutlispectral images. Starting from the physical principle of image formation, this paper presents a comprehensive framework, the general image fusion (GIF) method, which makes it possible to categorize, compare, and evaluate the existing image fusion methods. Using the GIF method, it is shown that the pixel values of the high-resolution multispectral images are determined by the corresponding pixel values of the low-resolution panchromatic image, the approximation of the high-resolution panchromatic image at the low-resolution level. Many of the existing image fusion methods, including, but not limited to, intensity-hue-saturation, Brovey transform, principal component analysis, high-pass filtering, high-pass modulation, the à trous algorithm-based wavelet transform, and multiresolution analysis-based intensity modulation (MRAIM), are evaluated and found to be particular cases of the GIF method. The performance of each image fusion method is theoretically analyzed based on how the corresponding low-resolution panchromatic image is computed and how the modulation coefficients are set. An experiment based on IKONOS images shows that there is consistency between the theoretical analysis and the experimental results and that the MRAIM method synthesizes the images closest to those the corresponding multisensors would observe at the high-resolution level. Note de contenu : 1 - PRINCIPE DU RADAR POLARIMETRIQUE
