Large, complex, and dynamic mobility data present a number of challenges in dashboard design. The overall aim for dashboard design is to improve information communication and decision making, though big mobility data in particular require considering privacy alongside size and complexity. Taking these issues into account, a gap remains between wrangling mobility data and developing meaningful dashboard output. Therefore, there is a need for a framework that bridges this gap to support the mobility dashboard development and design process. In this paper we outline a conceptual framework for mobility data dashboards that provides guidance for the development process while considering mobility data structure, volume, complexity, varied application contexts, and privacy constraints. We illustrate the proposed framework’s components and process using example mobility dashboards with varied inputs, end-users and objectives. Overall, the framework offers a basis for developers to understand how informational displays of big mobility data are determined by end-user needs as well as the types of data selection, transformation, and display available to particular mobility datasets. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (auteur) For bivariate origin-destination (OD) movement data composed of two types of individual OD movements, a bivariate cluster can be defined as a group of two types of OD movements, at least one of which has a high density. The identification of such bivariate clusters can provide new insights into the spatial interactions between different movement patterns. Because of spatial heterogeneity, the effective detection of inhomogeneous and irregularly shaped bivariate clusters from bivariate OD movement data remains a challenge. To fill this gap, we propose a network-constrained method for clustering two types of individual OD movements on road networks. To adaptively estimate the densities of inhomogeneous OD movements, we first define a new network-constrained density based on the concept of the shared nearest neighbor. A fast Monte Carlo simulation method is then developed to statistically estimate the density threshold for each type of OD movements. Finally, bivariate clusters are constructed using the density-connectivity mechanism. Experiments on simulated datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperformed three state-of-the-art methods in identifying inhomogeneous and irregularly shaped bivariate clusters. The proposed method was applied to taxi and ride-hailing service datasets in Xiamen. The identified bivariate clusters successfully reveal competition patterns between taxi and ride-hailing services. However, this reliance can negatively affect spatial learning, which can be detrimental even for expert navigators such as search and rescue personnel. Landmark visualization has been shown to improve spatial learning in general populations by facilitating object identification between the map and the environment. How landmark visualization supports expert users’ spatial learning during map-assisted navigation is still an open research question. We thus conducted a real-world study with wayfinding experts in an unknown residential neighborhood. We aimed to assess how two different landmark visualization styles (abstract 2D vs. realistic 3D buildings) would affect experts’ spatial learning in a map-assisted navigation task during an emergency scenario. Using a between-subjects design, we asked Swiss military personnel to follow a given route using a mobile map, and to identify five task-relevant landmarks along the route. We recorded experts’ gaze behavior while navigating and examined their spatial learning after the navigation task. We found that experts’ spatial learning improved when they focused their visual attention on the environment, but the direction of attention between the map and the environment was not affected by the landmark visualization style. Further, there was no difference in spatial learning between the 2D and 3D groups. Contrary to previous research with general populations, this study suggests that the landmark visualization style does not enhance expert navigators’ navigation or spatial learning abilities, thus highlighting the need for population-specific mobile map design solutions. [Termes IGN] voie cyclableRésumé : (auteur) Cycling practice has been constantly increasing for several years and the COVID crisis has just accelerated the process. Indeed, more and more municipalities have developed new cycle paths to facilitate cycling. Considering this increasing interest for cycling, it makes sense to study how this recent evolution is reflected in the underlying representation of the cycling network in the geographic databases. Main studies analysing the evolution of the road network focus on the motor vehicle network in the major cities of the world. These studies do not seem applicable to cycling network specially to some low population density areas or even to smaller cities. This paper analyses the changes in the cycling network through OSM data from a data freshness perspective. These changes can be either updates from changes in the real-world network or upgrades to the network. To these end, we propose a method using a Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) to analyse the frequency of changes in cycling routes in several areas with different population density, all in the Loire Valley region in France. We also define the cycling network, which is a very complex concept and we explain how it is represented in OSM data and suffers from different data quality issues. Results show that the number of changes across time are similar in areas having a similar population density, while being lower in low population density areas. These phenomena is higher in the cycling network compared to other networks. Despite the widespread application of geographical information systems (GISs) and pedestrian network analysis, studies have yet to analyze children’s comprehensive pedestrian access to urban services in a large-scale city. This study demonstrates GIS-based approaches to measuring children’s pedestrian access to urban services using a pedestrian path layer and the spatial layers of social infrastructure locations in Seoul, South Korea. We show the spatial inequities in children’s access to urban services, which depend on the locational characteristics of social infrastructures and the urban development patterns around children. We analyze how children’s access to social infrastructures is differentiated by land use composition. Our statistical analysis finds that low-rise residential areas, consisting of impermeable street patterns, increase children’s walking distance and restrict children from accessing urban services within their walkable area. In addition, there is potential for key infrastructures such as schools and local community centers to promote pedestrian access to urban services for children. Considering pedestrian access at the street level will help pinpoint vulnerable areas with children who have less access overall and maximize the users served within the service areas of infrastructures.
