[Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (auteur) This article presents the development of a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) workflow that harvests high-volume and high-frequency near real-time data from a public General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) and calculates metrics for the assessment of on-time and route speed performance for a public transit system. The approach is applied to near real-time and static GTFS data collected over a 9-month period for the City of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The workflow uses two Azure Virtual Machines (VMs), one to harvest the data and the other to process observations in parallel using Python and the ArcGIS API libraries. A Web GIS application is described that queries data from MongoDB to visualize the performance results in spatiotemporal form. The purpose of the workflow and Web GIS application is to provide actionable information to transit planners to improve public transportation systems. The data management and analysis workflow is transferable to similar GTFS data from other cities. [Termes IGN] TwitterRésumé : (auteur) Although it is acknowledged that urban inequalities can lead to biases in the production of social media data, there is a lack of studies which make an assessment of the effects of intra-urban movements in real-world urban analytics applications, based on social media. This study investigates the spatial heterogeneity of social media with regard to the regular intra-urban movements of residents by means of a case study of rainfall-related Twitter activity in São Paulo, Brazil. We apply a spatial autoregressive model that uses population and income as covariates and intra-urban mobility flows as spatial weights to explain the spatial distribution of the social response to rainfall events in Twitter vis-à-vis rainfall radar data. Results show high spatial heterogeneity in the response of social media to rainfall events, which is linked to intra-urban inequalities. Our model performance (R2=0.80) provides evidence that urban mobility flows and socio-economic indicators are significant factors to explain the spatial heterogeneity of thematic spatiotemporal patterns extracted from social media. Therefore, urban analytics research and practice should consider not only the influence of socio-economic profile of neighborhoods but also the spatial interaction introduced by intra-urban mobility flows to account for spatial heterogeneity when using social media data. The vast amount of data generated on social media, the use of sensor networks, IOT devices and other Internet-enabled sources allowed the semantic enrichment of mobility data, making the classification task more challenging. Existing trajectory classification methods have mainly considered space, time and numerical data, ignoring the semantic dimensions. Only recently proposed methods as Movelets and MASTERMovelets can handle all types of dimensions. MASTERMovelets is the only method that automatically discovers the best dimension combination and subtrajectory size for trajectory classification. However, although it outperformed the state-of-the-art in terms of accuracy, MASTERMovelets is computationally expensive and results in a high dimensionality problem, which makes it unfeasible for most real trajectory datasets that contain a big volume of data. To overcome this problem and enable the application of the movelets approach on large datasets, in this paper we propose a new high-performance method for extracting movelets and classifying trajectories, called HiPerMovelets (High-performance Movelets). Experimental results show that HiPerMovelets is 10 times faster than MASTERMovelets, reduces the high-dimensionality problem, is more scalable, and presents a high classification accuracy in all evaluated datasets with both raw and semantic trajectories. [Termes IGN] questionnaireRésumé : (auteur) Voice-assisted digital maps have become mainstream navigation aids for pedestrian navigation. Although these maps are widely studied and applied, it is still unclear how they affect human behavior and spatial knowledge acquisition. In this study, we recruited thirty-three college students to carry out an outdoor wayfinding experiment. We compared the effects of voice-assisted digital maps with those of digital maps without voice instructions and paper maps by using eye tracking, sketch maps, questionnaires and interviews. The results show that, compared to the other map types, voice-assisted digital maps can help users reach their destinations more quickly and pay more attention to moving objects, thereby increasing the comfort levels of participants. However, the efficiency of voice-assisted maps on route memory tasks does not rival that of paper maps. Overall, the use of voice-assisted digital maps saves time but may reduce pedestrians’ spatial knowledge acquisition. The results of this study reveal the influence of voice on pedestrian wayfinding and deepen the scientific understanding of the multimedia navigation mode in shaping human spatial ability. Accordingly, the need for indoor navigation has arisen. Among the indoor positioning technologies, quick response (QR) code, a low-cost, easily deployable, flexible, and efficient approach, has been used for indoor positioning and navigation purposes. A navigation network (model) is a precondition for pedestrian navigation path planning. However, no thorough research has been completed to investigate the relationship between navigation networks and locations of QR codes, which may cause ambiguities when deciding the closest node from the network that should be used for path computation. Specifically, QR codes are generally placed according to preferences or certain specifications whereas current agreed navigation network derivation approaches do not consider that. This article presents a navigation network derivation approach to address the issue by integrating QR code locations as nodes in navigation networks. The present approach is demonstrated in a shopping mall case. The results show that the approach can overcome the above-mentioned issue for indoor pedestrian path planning based on the QR code localization.
