[Termes IGN] trace GPSRésumé : (Auteur) Similar to every process involving quantitative research, the study of migration heavily depends on the data available for analysis. The available movement data limit the type of questions that can be asked, and as a result, certain aspects of human spatial mobility have yet to be examined. The development of information and communication technologies and their widespread adoption offers new datasets, methods and interpretations that make it possible to study social processes at a new level. For example, mobile positioning data can aid in overcoming certain constraints embedded in traditional data sources (such as censuses or questionnaires) for study of the connections between daily mobility and change of residence. This study presents a framework for mapping changes of residence using data from passive mobile positioning and an anchor point model to better understand the limits of these methods and their contribution to understanding long-term mobility. The study concludes that the most important considerations in monitoring change of residence using passive mobile position data include the continuity of the time-series data, the varying structure of the mobile tower network and the diversified nature of human mobility. The fine spatial and temporal granularities of passive mobile positioning data allow us to study human movement at a detailed scale. [Vedettes matières IGN] CartologieRésumé : (Auteur) Some map users still experience difficulties when attempting to route plan, navigate and/or wayfind. This paper provides information on the outcomes of a research project that aims to identify the nature of the difficulties/challenges these users experience. The paper draws on findings from studies of strategies used by novice and experienced map users, and users with poor spatial abilities, to identify the skills that those with poor spatial abilities or with little map reading experience lack. Data were collected using Tobii Pro Glasses 2 hardware and associated software. Fourteen participants walked between two predetermined locations while wearing eye-tracking glasses and speaking their thoughts aloud. The data collected in this study were analysed using quantitative and qualitative approaches. Analysis of the results shows three key findings for this particular group: looking at the map incessantly led to missed environmental cues; street names were not labelled at decision-making points on the map; and some individuals having poor spatial abilities prefer small-scale landmarks, for example, buildings with numbers to locate themselves, as opposed to using road names or larger landmarks. We argue that by considering these findings, map designs could be adjusted to meet the needs of map users with poor spatial abilities. [Termes IGN] traitement répartiRésumé : (Auteur) Recent rapid development of wireless communication, mobile computing, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), and spatially enabled sensors are leading to an exponential growth of available mobility data produced continuously at high speed. Due to these advancements, a new class of monitoring applications has come to the focus, including real-time intelligent transportation systems, traffic monitoring and mobile objects tracking. These new information flow processing (IFP) application domains need to process huge volume of mobility data arriving in the form of continuous data streams from mobile objects. IFP applications are pushing traditional database technologies beyond their limits due to their massively increasing data volumes and demands for real-time processing. Mobility data, i.e. real-time, transient, time-varying sequences of spatio-temporal data items, generated by embedded positioning sensors demonstrates at least two Big Data core features: volume and velocity. Existing distributed data stream management systems (DSMS), real-time computing systems (RTCS) and their processing models are dominantly based on relational paradigm and continuous operator model. Thus, they have rudimentary spatio-temporal capabilities, provide expensive fault recovery requiring either hot replication or long recovery times, and do not handle faults and slow nodes. The framework proposed in this paper is a cornerstone towards efficient real-time managing and monitoring of mobile objects through distributed spatio-temporal streams processing on large clusters. A prototype implementation is rooted in a new stream processing model that overcomes the challenges of current distributed stream processing models and enable seamless integration with batch and interactive processing like MapReduce. Note de contenu : Introduction
