[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) In this article, we explore the potential of wireframe design and evaluation for interactive and web-based mapping through a case study on water level visualization. Specifically, our research informed design and development of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Lake Level Viewer (http://coast.noaa.gov/llv/), an interactive and web-based geovisualization application for the Great Lakes region of North America. As part of our overall user-centered design process, we created two sets of wireframes to evaluate two aspects of the user experience: high-fidelity wireframes to illustrate the proposed representation solution using real data and low-fidelity wireframes to provide a rough sketch of the proposed interaction solution. Eighteen target users completed cognitive walkthroughs of the wireframes, with the sessions audio-recorded for subsequent transcription and qualitative data analysis. The wireframe evaluations led to a series of revisions to the functional scope and visual design of the Lake Level Viewer. The process also generated recommendations for designing water level visualizations supporting adaptive management in response to climate change as well as for leveraging wireframes in support of large-scale mapping and GIS projects. [Termes IGN] valorisation des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Digitized archives of national mapping agencies are valuable assets for a number of usages. One is to evaluate hypothesis about a past state of Earth – for example to assess the past presence of water sources based on old maps - , another usage is to observe dynamics – for example to describe urban sprawl based on series of images and maps - and to geo - reference documents that can be indexed and integrated based on their location in time and space. Last, a growing need is to provide a referencing framework in space and time for thematic digitized data, typically in the digital humanities or in the cultural industry. Besides, more and more data are being produced and the question of how to archive them efficiently is tightly related to the expected usage of the archives. Late 2014, EuroSDR started a specific initiative targeting the valorization of existing digitized archives of national mapping agencies and cadasters - following up the EuroSDR Archiving project - extended to any geodata that has been or will be replaced by newer one. A first seminar in December 2014 led to define a strategy comprising two facets. First facet was to reach out users to learn from them what are the priorities and requirements. Second facet was to share more elements between NMCAs’ good practices, and then maybe infrastructure components, datasets, servers, software, licenses, etc. but also with other actors. A follow up seminar targeted both facets through the focus on graphical interfaces. It aimed at presenting latest research and developments about graphical interfaces to interact with geographical historical data, at getting more insight on user communities’ requirements and fostering collaborations between national mapping agencies, academics and the industry in this domain. This report presents the highlights of this EuroSDR seminar of graphical interfaces for historical data, which took place in Saint Mandé (near Paris, France), on June 26th 2017. It was organized in three parts: presentations from national portals, presentations from research, discussions to draft a EuroSDR roadmap on graphical interfaces for historical data. [Termes IGN] système de transport intelligentRésumé : (Auteur) Interacting with ride-sharing systems for ad hoc travel is a complex spatio-temporal task. The dynamics of service supply and demand challenge the rigidity of traditional human–computer interfaces, introducing service uncertainty and creating a knowledge gap which hinders a client's travel planning. Such interface constraints may mean that a client user is unable to find any ride matching their intentions. To overcome this, a novel visual interface concept, launch pads, has been suggested to replace the traditional interface within a two-step negotiation. To close the proposed approach's feedback loop, this paper investigates human understanding and use of the launch pad metaphor. Usability testing of launch pads is performed using a spatial cognitive engineering approach in directed wayfinding scenarios using various alternative representations. Results highlight that the variances of user interaction times depend on the representation used and reveal potential information overload issues. Using these findings, a minimum decision-making time is defined to tune the system's architecture.
