However, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are emerging as a suitable technology for providing very high spatial and temporal resolution data at a low cost. This paper aims to show the potential of using UAVs for map creation and updating. The whole workflow is introduced in the paper, using a case study in Rwanda, where 954 images were collected with a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus quadcopter. An orthophoto covering 0.095 km2 with a spatial resolution of 3.3 cm was produced and used to extract features with a sub-decimetre accuracy. Quantitative and qualitative control of the UAV data products were performed, indicating that the obtained accuracies comply to international standards. Moreover, possible problems and further perspectives were also discussed. The results demonstrate that UAVs provide promising opportunities to create high-resolution and highly accurate orthophotos, thus facilitating map creation and updating. [Termes IGN] propagation d'incertitudeRésumé : (auteur) A landmark based localization with uncertainty analysis based on cameras and geo-referenced landmarks is presented in this paper. The system is developed to adapt different camera configurations for six degree-of-freedom pose estimation. Local bundle adjustment is applied for optimization and the geo-referenced landmarks are integrated to reduce the drift. In particular, the uncertainty analysis is taken into account. On the one hand, we estimate the uncertainties of poses to predict the precision of localization. On the other hand, uncertainty propagation is considered for matching, tracking and landmark registering. The proposed method is evaluated on both KITTI benchmark and the data acquired by a mobile mapping system. In our experiments, decimeter level accuracy can be reached. [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (auteur) Recently, we observe the rapid development of the Global Navigational Satellite Systems (GNSS), including autonomous positioning techniques, such as Precise Point Positioning (PPP). The GNSS have different conceptions, different spacecraft and use different types of orbits which is why the quality of real-time orbit and clock products is inconsistent, thus, the appropriate approach of the multi-GNSS observation processing is needed to optimize the solution quality. In this paper, the kinematic field experiment is conducted in order to examine multi-GNSS real-time Standard Point Positioning (SPP) and PPP performance. The test was performed on the 26 km-long car route through villages, forests, the city of Wroclaw, crossing under viaducts and a high tension line. For the first time, the solution is based on GPS + GLONASS + Galileo + BeiDou observations using streamed corrections for orbits and clocks with two different weighting scenarios. Thanks to the usage of the multi-GNSS constellation, the number of positioning epochs possible to determine increases by 10%. The results show also that the appropriate weighting approach can improve the root mean square error in the SPP solution by about 13% and 42% for the horizontal and vertical coordinate components, respectively. In the case of PPP, the maximum quality improvement equals 70% for the horizontal component and the results for the vertical component are comparable with those obtained for the GPS-only solution.
