[Termes IGN] transformation en ZRésumé : (Auteur) Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) images of geophysical events such as preeruptive volcano deformation or interseismic strain accumulation are often limited by phase distortions from the superimposed atmospheric signature. Additionally, the approximate monthly repeat cycle of many radar satellites cannot accurately capture rapidly time-varying processes. The Scanning Synthetic Aperture Radar (ScanSAR) mode of the ENVISAT/ASAR instrument permits more frequent revisits of a given area, potentially overcoming both of these limitations. In particular, stripmap mode-to-ScanSAR images provide a denser time series of interferograms than is possible with conventional stripmap-to-stripmap mode InSAR. We present images of ENVISAT/ASAR data acquired over Hawaii in which data acquired roughly weekly in ScanSAR mode are combined with ENVISAT/ASAR conventional stripmap mode data to form interferograms at a much denser temporal spacing. The burst nature of ScanSAR data requires a new processing method to form the interferograms. We use traditional matched filtering for the range compression. For the azimuth processing, we compute the stripmap mode data on the ScanSAR sampling grid using a variation, consisting of different reference functions, of Lanari's modified SPECAN algorithm that is itself an adaptation of the chirp z -transform to readjust the azimuth pulse spacing. The resulting interferograms faithfully reflect the phase of conventional interferograms, but exhibit fewer looks and coarser resolution than those produced by fully stripmap mode data. For many problems, temporal density of the deformation observations is paramount, and the time series analysis and temporal averaging that were made possible using ScanSAR interferograms far out-weigh the loss in looks and resolution. [Termes IGN] subductionRésumé : (auteur) The GRACE satellite mission has been measuring the Earth's gravity field and its temporal variations since 2002 April. Although these variations are mainly due to mass transfer within the geofluid envelops, they also result from mass displacements associated with phenomena including glacial isostatic adjustment and earthquakes. However, these last contributions are difficult to isolate because of the presence of noise and of geofluid signals, and because of GRACE's coarse spatial resolution (>400 km half-wavelength). In this paper, we show that a wavelet analysis on the sphere helps to retrieve earthquake signatures from GRACE geoid products. Using a wavelet analysis of GRACE geoids products, we show that the geoid variations caused by the 2004 December (Mw = 9.2) and 2005 March (Mw = 8.7) Sumatra earthquakes can be detected. At GRACE resolution, the 2004 December earthquake produced a strong coseismic decrease of the gravity field in the Andaman Sea, followed by relaxation in the area affected by both the Andaman 2004 and the Nias 2005 earthquakes. We find two characteristic timescales for the relaxation, with a fast variation occurring in the vicinity of the Central Andaman ridge. We discuss our coseismic observations in terms of density changes of crustal and upper-mantle rocks, and of the vertical displacements in the Andaman Sea. We interpret the post-seismic signal in terms of the viscoelastic response of the Earth's mantle. The transient component of the relaxation may indicate the presence of hot, viscous material beneath the active Central Andaman Basin. [Termes IGN] traitement de données GNSSRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes revisions to the Horizontal Time Dependent Positioning (HTDP) software carried out to address the motion associated with two recent California earthquakes. NOAA's National Geodetic Survey (NGS) developed HTDP to enable its users to compensate survey measurements for the differential movement associated with tectonic deformation, so that surveys conducted at different epochs may be compared. We focus on the process of selecting and validating models for two recent earthquakes in California, prior to their inclusion in version 2.9 of this software (HTDP v2.9) the Parkfield earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0, which occurred on September 28, 2004, and the San Simeon, California earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5, occurring on December 22, 2003. The process of modeling and correcting for deformation can be well illustrated by utilizing data collected in the vicinity of these earthquakes, because they represent contrasting styles of deformation Parkfield exhibited strike-slip motion and San Simeon wax predominantly a blind-thrust earthquake. Also, while both earthquakes were relatively small, they produced significant displacements (though restricted to a relatively small area in central California). The Parkfield earthquake, in particular, produced an unusually high proportion of post-seismic deformation. This deformation can accumulate during a period of a few months after the earthquake, whereas co-seismic deformation occurs suddenly during an earthquake. Quantifying and characterizing deformation at these disparate time scales represents a major challenge to developing the accurate models of deformation that are required to support modern, high-accuracy surveying in tectonically active areas such as California. This study also confirms the importance of including separate dislocation models of the co-seismic and post-seismic deformation, because, as was the case for Parkfield, post-seismic deformation can be comparable in magnitude to co-seismic deformation.
