[Termes IGN] web mappingRésumé : (Auteur) In contrast to classical paper maps publicly accessible internet maps (e.g. city maps and route planners) miss the possibility to comment or augment the retrieved maps. This drawback significantly restricts the usability of web maps. In this article, a new concept for Cooperative Web Mapping is presented which allows to comment or change internet maps within the web browser of the client computer. It is shown how map augmentations and modifications can be stored locally and distributed to other users over the internet in a simple way. The proposed concept offers the possibility to initiate spontaneous discussions of the spatial facts presented in web maps. Finally, the description of a prototype implementation within the existing web site "Ruhrtal a la Karte" is given, a multimedia interactive bicycle route planner. [Termes IGN] standard OGCRésumé : (Auteur) Geographical metadata are a crucial element for managing and using geographical information. So far, agreement has been reached on a metadata model that should be an international standard soon. Some issues still remain like the definition of application profiles based on this metadata model, which is still an ongoing effort from ISO. Others are usage issues like convincing actors of the necessity of contributing to the metadata effort. In this paper, we present a research which aims at demonstrating, in a limited context, the value of metadata. We focus on a specific application : a prototype of an enterprise portal to share contents, tools, services and know-how inside the Institut Géographique National (the French mapping agency). We called it PARTAGE (french word for "sharing"). For the purpose of this application, we propose a metadata profile based on existing ISO and OGC standards. The first part of this paper introduces our general approach. User requirements are briefly presented in the next part. We then present the core models of the portal and the development of Web services it provides. [Termes IGN] web mappingRésumé : (éditeur) This book, entitled Advances in Spatial Data Handling, is a compendium of papers resulting from the International Symposium on Spatial Data Handling (SDH), held in Ottawa, Canada, July 9-12, 2002. The SDH conference series has been organised as one of the main activities of the International Geographical Union (IGU) since it was first started in Zurich in 1984. In the late 1990’s the IGU Commission of Geographic Information Systems was discontinued and a study group was formed to succeed it in 1997. Much like the IGU Commission, the objectives of the Study Group are to create a network of people and research centres addressing geographical information science and to facilitate exchange of information. The International Symposium on Spatial Data Handling, which is the most important activity of the IGU Study Group, has, throughout its 18 year history been highly regarded as one of the most important GIS conferences in the world. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Major mapping organisations are moving towards a new production paradigm centred on building and maintaining a master database modelling the real world. From this database are then produced multiple maps, charts, geospatial data and ondemand spatial visualisations, including Internet web mapping. To obtain maps of differing scales from one database generalisation of the original large scale map is an essential operation. Effective and automated generalisation of map data has been sought by mapping agencies worldwide for many years. However, success has been limited. The author presents a solution developed for the Danish National Mapping Agency Wort & Matrikelstyrelsen' based on the European AGENT research project and LaserScan objectoriented technology as implemented in LAMPS2.
