Note de contenu : Introduction générale

[Termes IGN] SIFT (algorithme)Index. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) During this thesis, we consider the exhaustive graph mining problem for a special kind of graphs : the grids. Theses grids can be used to model objects that present a regular structure. These structures are naturally present in multiple board games (checkers, chess or go for instance) or in ecosystems models using cellular automata. It is also possible to find this structure in a lower level in images, which are 2D grids of pixels, or even in videos, which are 2D+t spatio-temporal grids of pixels. In this thesis, we proposed a new algorithm to find frequent patterns dedicated to spatio-temporal grids, GriMA. Use of regular grids allow our algorithm to reduce the complexity of the isomorphisms test. These tests are often use by generic graph mining algorithm but because of their complexity, they are rarely used on real data. Two applications were proposed to evaluate our algorithm: image classification for 2D grids mining and prediction of cellular automata for 2D+t grids mining. Note de contenu : 1- Introduction

[Termes IGN] réseau neuronal convolutifRésumé : (Auteur) The problem of dense semantic labeling consists in assigning semantic labels to every pixel in an image. In the context of aerial image analysis, it is particularly important to yield high-resolution outputs. In order to use convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for this task, it is required to design new specific architectures to provide fine-grained classification maps. Many dense semantic labeling CNNs have been recently proposed. Our first contribution is an in-depth analysis of these architectures. We establish the desired properties of an ideal semantic labeling CNN, and assess how those methods stand with regard to these properties. We observe that even though they provide competitive results, these CNNs often underexploit properties of semantic labeling that could lead to more effective and efficient architectures. Out of these observations, we then derive a CNN framework specifically adapted to the semantic labeling problem. In addition to learning features at different resolutions, it learns how to combine these features. By integrating local and global information in an efficient and flexible manner, it outperforms previous techniques. We evaluate the proposed framework and compare it with state-of-the-art architectures on public benchmarks of high-resolution aerial image labeling. [Termes IGN] méta connaissanceRésumé : (auteur) Overviews of spatiotemporal data are acknowledged to play an important role in visualization in initiating and supporting geovisualization and exploratory data analysis (EDA). However, relatively little research has focused on the visual overviews themselves, and their potential impacts on EDA outcomes. In a user study, we evaluated the influence of different levels of domain knowledge on the usefulness of four distinct types of static visual overview of spatiotemporal data. Beyond simply orienting users, our results indicate that visual overviews can be important in gaining insights into a data set, for example, in learning about metadata. Although subjects without domain knowledge struggled to judge the quality of their findings, they were as successful at identifying interesting patterns in the data as those with domain expertise. Our results suggest that detailed background knowledge of a data set can actively hinder EDA. Being already familiar with their own data sets, our results highlight the tendency of data experts to disregard findings that do not match their pre-existing domain knowledge. Based on these findings, our conclusions identify a range of potential avenues for future work, including the use of visual overviews that deliberately do not, from first view, reveal the context of the data they show. This later approach could help in cases where domain experts need to see their data with ‘fresh eyes’, and detect interesting patterns in spatiotemporal data before relating the findings to specific knowledge about the data sets and the domain. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Social media streams and remote sensing data have emerged as new sources for tracking disaster events, and assessing their damages. Previous studies focus on a case-by-case approach, where a specific event was first chosen and filtering criteria (e.g., keywords, spatiotemporal information) are manually designed and used to retrieve relevant data for disaster analysis. This paper presents a framework that synthesizes multi-sourced data (e.g., social media, remote sensing, Wikipedia, and Web), spatial data mining and text mining technologies to build an architecturally resilient and elastic solution to support disaster analysis of historical and future events. Within the proposed framework, Wikipedia is used as a primary source of different historical disaster events, which are extracted to build an event database. Such a database characterizes the salient spatiotemporal patterns and characteristics of each type of disaster. Additionally, it can provide basic semantics, such as event name (e.g., Hurricane Sandy) and type (e.g., flooding) and spatiotemporal scopes, which are then tuned by the proposed procedures to extract additional information (e.g., hashtags for searching tweets), to query and retrieve relevant social media and remote sensing data for a specific disaster. Besides historical event analysis and pattern mining, the cloud-based framework can also support real-time event tracking and monitoring by providing on-demand and elastic computing power and storage capabilities. A prototype is implemented and tested with data relative to the 2011 Hurricane Sandy and the 2013 Colorado flooding.
