[Termes IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (Auteur) This article examines walkability areas in Tsukuba and presents results on the web by creating Walkability WebGIS. ALOS image, Zenrin, and road maps were used for the study. Greenness index was computed to highlight urban greeneries in the walkability areas. A fieldwork was conducted to verify the research results. From well settled to tranquil areas were identified to better inform the walkers or bicycle riders. Walkability routes were further graded into five levels of suitability ranging from very low to very high based on the greenness index. Walkability WebGIS (http://sae.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp/TsukubaWalkability/default. aspx) including easy-to-use help system was developed on ArcGIS Server platform to disseminate the results to the Tsukuba residents. Geographic data exploration tool bar, search and proximity analysis functions were also provided in the system. In this system, the residents can freely explore the maps and use spatial functions to understand their surrounding walkability environments, and print the maps for their daily use. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) Frequently, terrestrial LiDAR and image data are used to extract high resolution building geometry like windows, doors and protrusions for three-dimensional (3D) façade reconstruction. However, such a purely data driven bottom-up modelling of façade structures is only feasible if the available observations meet considerable requirements on data quality. Errors in measurement, varying point densities, reduced accuracies, as well as incomplete coverage affect the achievable correctness and reliability of the reconstruction result. While dependence on data quality is a general disadvantage with data driven bottom-up approaches, model based top-down reconstructions are much more robust. Algorithms introduce knowledge about the appearance and arrangement of objects. Thus, they cope with data uncertainty and allow for a procedural modelling of building structures in a predefined architectural style, which is inherent in grammar or model descriptions. We aim at a quality sensitive façade reconstruction which is on the one hand robust against erroneous and incomplete data, but on the other hand not subject to prespecified rules or models. For this purpose, we combine bottom-up and top-down strategies by integrating automatically inferred rules into a data driven reconstruction process. Façade models reconstructed during a bottom-up method serve as a knowledge base for further processing. Dominant or repetitive features and regularities as well as their hierarchical relationship are detected from the modelled façade elements and automatically translated into rules. These rules together with the 3D representations of the modelled façade elements constitute a formal grammar. It holds all the information which is necessary to reconstruct façades in the style of the given building. The paper demonstrates that the proposed algorithm is very flexible towards different data quality and incomplete sensor data. The inferred grammar is used for the verification of the façade model produced during the data driven reconstruction process and the generation of synthetic façades for which only partial or no sensor data is available. Moreover, knowledge propagation is not restricted to façades of one single building. Based on a small set of formal grammars derived from just a few observed buildings, façade reconstruction is also possible for whole districts featuring uniform architectural styles. [Termes IGN] système expertRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, two simple GIS-based methodologies have been used to assess the landslide susceptibility in a basin located in Southern Italy. The methodologies at issue, based on the spatial distribution of landslides and/or of causal factors, are bivariate statistics-based and expert-based, respectively. The spatial distribution of both the landslides and the causal factors has been investigated by integrating pre-existing and original data, which have been processed using ArcView GIS 3.2 software. The obtained results, consisting of landslide susceptibility maps have been compared and discussed. The bivariate statistics-based method has provided the most satisfying results. On the contrary, the expert-based method has provided a classification of the study area in terms of landslide susceptibility which does not completely fit with the surveyed spatial distribution of the landslides. [Termes IGN] représentation mentale spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) A key strength of a map for navigation is that it can show the features of an environment and their spatial relationships over an area too large to be perceived through direct experience. This characteristic is important for navigation, including planning travel, making decisions while en route, and developing a user's cognitive map. But what happens on a small display, such as that of a cell phone, when, instead of seeing the entire area of interest, the user can view only a discrete section of the map at any time? This article presents research investigating the implications of a small display for map use and spatial knowledge acquisition. A research study was conducted with 80 participants using a map to answer distance and direction questions in one of four viewable-extent conditions, ranging from 10°/o to 100% of the map viewable at a time. Map-use results showed that small viewable extents hindered performance with respect to accuracy and response time but had no effect on participants' confidence in their performance on the navigation tasks. Tests of spatial knowledge acquisition showed differences across conditions for recall tasks, but a sketch-map analysis revealed no differences based on viewable extent.
