[Termes IGN] précision de la classificationRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a standardized probability approach is presented to evaluate the pixel labeling confidence of each pixel and then combine the classification maps generated from different classification procedures for improving classification accuracy. This approach examines the posterior probability of the maximum-likelihood classifier or inverse-distance weight for the minimum-distance classifier for each pixel. It recommends that, for every classification, a standardized probability map should be outputted along with the classified map to show the pixel labeling confidence for all pixels. Tests based on different feature combinations and training strategies from Ikonos data show that the proposed approach was effective in improving the labeling confidence, as well as overall classification accuracy when classified maps from different classification procedures were combined. This standardized probability can be used to provide additional spatial information along with the traditional accuracy assessment. [Termes IGN] image panchromatiqueRésumé : (Auteur) An Improved Synthetic Variable Ratio (ISVR) fusion method is proposed to merge high spatial resolution panchromatic (Pan) images and multispectral (MS) images based on a simulation of the panchromatic image from the multispectral bands. Compared to the existing SVR (Synthetic Variable Ratio) family methods, the ISVR method manifests two major improvements: a simplified and physically meaningful scheme to derive the parameters necessary as required by SVR, and less computing power. Two sets of IKONOS Pan and MS images: one in urban area and another one in a forest area, were used to evaluate the effectiveness of classification-oriented ISVR method in comparison to the Principal Component Substitution (PCS), Synthetic Variable Ratio (SVR) and Gram-Schmidt Spectral Sharpening (GS) methods that are available in the ENVI software package. Results indicate the ISVR method achieves the best spectral fidelity to facilitate classification compared to PCS, SVR, and GS methods. [Termes IGN] modèle stéréoscopiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Our objective was to assess the accuracy of the forest height and biomass estimates derived from an Ikonos stereo pair and a lidar digital terrain model (DTM). After the Ikonos scenes were registered to the DTM with submetric accuracy, tree heights were measured individually by subtracting the photogrammetric elevation of the treetop from the lidar ground-level elevation of the tree base. The low residual error (1.66 m) of the measurements confirmed the joint geometric accuracy of the combined models. Matched images of the stereo pair were then used to create a digital surface model. The latter was transformed to a canopy height model (CHM) by subtracting the lidar DTM. Plotwise height percentiles were extracted from the Ikonos-lidar CHM and used to predict the average dominant height and above-ground biomass. The coefficient of determination reached 0.91 and 0.79 for average height and biomass, respectively. In both cases, the accuracy of the Ikonos-lidar CHM predictions was slightly lower than that of the all-lidar reference CHM. Although the CHM heights did not saturate at moderate biomass levels, as do multispectral or radar images, values above 300 Mg ha-1 could not be predicted accurately by the Ikonos-lidar or by the all-lidar CHM. [Termes IGN] oscillationRésumé : (Auteur) Multi-channel Gabor filters (MGFs) and Markov random fields (MRFs) are two common methods for texture analysis. This paper investigates their integration through a novel algorithm using the neighborhood-oscillating tabu search (NOTS) for high-resolution image classification. The NOTS algorithm fuses the texture features extracted by MGF and MRF. This algorithm has been compared with classical methods such as sequential forward selection, sequential forward floating selection, and oscillating search. Experimental results show that the fused MGF/MRF features have much higher discrimination than pure features, and NOTS outperforms other algorithms with either pure or fused features. The stability and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm have been verified using Brodatz, Ikonos, and QuickBird images.
