[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Modeling thematic and spatial dynamic behaviors of urban heat islands (UHIs) over time is important for understanding the evolution of this phenomenon to mitigate the warming effect in urban areas. Although previous studies conceptualized that a UHI only has a single life cycle with spatial behaviors, a UHI can be detected to appear and disappear several times periodically in terms of thematic and spatial integrated behaviors. Such multiple behaviors have not yet been illustrated with proof or evidence. This study conceptualizes a UHI as an object which has thematic and spatial behaviors simultaneously and proposes several graphs to depict periodic life‐cycle transitions triggered by behaviors. The conceptualized behaviors have been modeled and implemented in an object‐relational database management system and temperature readings collected from numerous weather stations were interpolated as temperature images per hour. The results of this study indicate that the model could track the spatial and thematic evolution of UHIs continuously and reveal their periodical patterns and abnormal cases. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Urban climate data remain complex to analyze regarding their spatial distribution. The co-visualization of simulated air temperature into urban models could help experts to analyze horizontal and vertical spatial distributions. We design a co-visualization framework enabling simulated air temperature data exploration, based on the graphic representation of three types of geometric proxies, and their co-visualization with a 3D urban model with various possible rendering styles. Through this framework, we aim at allowing meteorological researchers to visually analyze and interpret the relationships between simulated air temperature data and urban morphology. Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] ventRésumé : (Editeur) This book includes eight studies that examine the issue of spatial variability in four areas of the environmental sciences – atmospheric science, geological science, biological science, and landscape science. The topics range from monitoring of wind, the urban heat island, and atmospheric pollution, to coastal geomorphology, landscape planning and forest ecology, the problem of introduced species to regional ecologies, and a technique to improve the identification of human constructions in semi-natural landscapes. A small volume can only offer a small glimpse at the activities of scientists and insights into environmental science, but the array of papers herein offers a unique view of the current scholarship. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) This thesis seeks to add to the study of the relationship between land surface temperature (LST) and urban land cover by presenting a method to project Landsat LST data from the satellite overpass time (9:40 am) to a local peak of temperature (estimated to be around 1:15 pm locally), to investigate the impact of the time of image acquisition on modelling the spatial and temporal variations of LST. Additionally, it would also verify the effects of extreme temperature to reach more representative seasonal images. The study uses remote sensing data extracted from Landsat 5 and 8 (30 m resolution) and the Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager LST products (SEVIRI 3 km resolution), in addition to LST-based measurements collected from the ground. The study presented a method to convert Landsat images to be estimated during local peaks in LST with an accuracy of: standard error of 1.7°C and an R of 0.82 in comparison with actual ground-based measurements. This allowed an investigation of the effects of time of day on the spatial and temporal variation of LST, where it was found that this factor has clearly affected the relationship between LST and urban land cover. Similarly, the time of day has caused differences in estimating LST change over several years. It is also found that the extreme values of temperature can affect the trend of LST temporal variation, and which can be minimized by using the images in the form of the average of seasonal images for each year rather than images being used in a standalone manner. This study contributes to the improved study of LST by minimizing the uncertainty that can occur because of the angle of the sun and associated factors such as shadows, which has long been a controversial issue among researches due to the lack of appropriate satellite data.
