[Termes IGN] interpolation bilinéaireRésumé : (Auteur) Many image interpolation methods have been developed to enhance the visibility of either remotely sensed or other images, such as the bilinear method and bi-cubic method As a further development of the existing approaches, an integrated interpolation method is proposed in this study, which is an integration of the bilinear and the bi-cubic interpolation methods. First, the implemented procedure of the integrated interpolation method is described. This covers (a) a low-resolution image that is interpolated by using the bilinear and the bi-cubic interpolators respectively; (b) the hybrid parameters and 1 - endowed on the bilinear and the bi-cubic interpolation results, respectively; (c) the interpolated image that is computed according to the weighted sum of both bilinear and bi-cubic interpolation results. Second, a further discussion is given on the method and the relation between hybrid parameter and details of an image (entropy) provided from the theoretical point of view. The result demonstrates that the hybrid parameter directly affects the details of an interpolated image. Third, the effectiveness of this integrated method is verified, based on experimental studies. Here, a method for the construction of images with different entropies is developed for construct simulated images. The integrated method possesses advantages of both the bilinear method for modelling low-frequency components and the bi-cubic method of high-frequency components simultaneously. The experimental study demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed integrated model. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes the fusion of information extracted from multispectral digital aerial images for highly automatic 3D map generation. The proposed approach integrates spectral classification and 3D reconstruction techniques. The multispectral digital aerial images consist of a high resolution panchromatic channel as well as lower resolution RGB and near infrared (NIR) channels and form the basis for information extraction. Our land use classification is a 2-step approach that uses RGB and NIR images for an initial classification and the panchromatic images as well as a digital surface model (DSM) for a refined classification. The DSM is generated from the high resolution panchromatic images of a specific photo mission. Based on the aerial triangulation using area and feature-based points of interest the algorithms are able to generate a dense DSM by a dense image matching procedure. Afterwards a true ortho image for classification, panchromatic or color input images can be computed. In a last step, specific layers for buildings and vegetation are generated and the classification is updated. [Termes IGN] variogrammeRésumé : (Auteur) The monitoring of earth surface dynamic processes at a global scale requires high temporal frequency remote sensing observations which are provided up to now by moderate spatial resolution sensors. However, the spatial heterogeneity within the moderate spatial resolution pixel biases non-linear estimation processes of land surface variables from remote sensing data. To limit its influence on the description of land surface processes, corrections based on the quantification of the intra-pixel heterogeneity may be applied to non-linear estimation processes. A complementary strategy is to define the proper pixel size to capture the spatial variability of the data and minimize the intra-pixel variability.
This work provides a methodology to characterize and quantify the spatial heterogeneity of landscape vegetation cover from the modeling of the variogram of high spatial resolution NDVI data. NDVI variograms for 18 landscapes extracted from the VALERI database show that the land use is the main factor of spatial variability as quantified by the variogram sill. Crop sites are more heterogeneous than natural vegetation and forest sites at the landscape level. The integral range summarizes all structural parameters of the variogram into a single characteristic area. Its square root quantifies the mean length scale (i.e. spatial scale) of the data, which varies between 216 and 1060 m over the 18 landscapes considered. The integral range is also used as a yardstick to judge if the size of an image is large enough to measure properly the length scales of the data with the variogram. We propose that it must be smaller than 5% of the image surface. The theoretical dispersion variance, computed from the variogram model, quantifies the spatial heterogeneity within a moderate resolution pixel. It increases rapidly with pixel size until this size is larger than the mean length scale of the data. Finally based on the analysis of 18 landscapes, the sufficient pixel size to capture the major part of the spatial variability of the vegetation cover at the landscape scale is estimated to be less than 100 m. Since for all the heterogeneous landscapes the loss of NDVI spatial variability was small at this spatial resolution, the bias generated by the intra-pixel spatial heterogeneity on non-linear estimation processes will be reduced. [Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (Auteur) There are many image fusion methods that can be used to produce high-resolution multispectral images from a high-resolution panchromatic image and low-resolution mutlispectral images. Starting from the physical principle of image formation, this paper presents a comprehensive framework, the general image fusion (GIF) method, which makes it possible to categorize, compare, and evaluate the existing image fusion methods. Using the GIF method, it is shown that the pixel values of the high-resolution multispectral images are determined by the corresponding pixel values of the low-resolution panchromatic image, the approximation of the high-resolution panchromatic image at the low-resolution level. Many of the existing image fusion methods, including, but not limited to, intensity-hue-saturation, Brovey transform, principal component analysis, high-pass filtering, high-pass modulation, the à trous algorithm-based wavelet transform, and multiresolution analysis-based intensity modulation (MRAIM), are evaluated and found to be particular cases of the GIF method. The performance of each image fusion method is theoretically analyzed based on how the corresponding low-resolution panchromatic image is computed and how the modulation coefficients are set. An experiment based on IKONOS images shows that there is consistency between the theoretical analysis and the experimental results and that the MRAIM method synthesizes the images closest to those the corresponding multisensors would observe at the high-resolution level.
