[Termes IGN] TibetRésumé : (auteur) With its global coverage and all-weather imaging capability, Interferometric SAR (InSAR) has been revolutionizing our ability to image the Earth's surface and the evolution of its shape over time. In turn, this has led to many new insights into geophysical and engineering processes, such as volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides and mining activity. In this study, we used an advanced InSAR time series technique to map ground motion of an area in Northern Tibet using ENVISAT images acquired between 2003 and 2007. In order to minimise the effects of baseline decorrelation, a subset of possible pairs having a perpendicular baseline (i.e. orbital separation) of less than 400 m was chosen for the InSAR time series analysis. The time series results reveal an ‘unexpected’ nonlinear ground motion: the area of interest was relatively stable during the period from 2003 to the middle of 2004, whilst it has exhibited a nearly linear uplift of about 8 cm since the middle of 2004. Examination of high-resolution ALOS PRISM images shows that the uplift signal occurred over the Huatugou oil field and is most likely caused by water injection. This study highlights the potential of InSAR as an early detection tool of surface deformations. [Termes IGN] système expertRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a hierarchical, multi-stage adaptive strategy for image classification. We iteratively apply various classification methods (e.g., decision trees, neural networks), identify regions of parametric and geographic space where accuracy is low, and in these regions, test and apply alternate methods repeating the process until the entire image is classified. Currently, classifiers are evaluated through human input using an expert-based system; therefore, this paper acts as the proof of concept for collaborative classifiers. Because we decompose the problem into smaller, more manageable sub-tasks, our classification exhibits increased flexibility compared to existing methods since classification methods are tailored to the idiosyncrasies of specific regions. A major benefit of our approach is its scalability and collaborative support since selected low-accuracy classifiers can be easily replaced with others without affecting classification accuracy in high accuracy areas. At each stage, we develop spatially explicit accuracy metrics that provide straightforward assessment of results by non-experts and point to areas that need algorithmic improvement or ancillary data. Our approach is demonstrated in the task of detecting impervious surface areas, an important indicator for human-induced alterations to the environment, using a 2001 Landsat scene from Las Vegas, Nevada. [Termes IGN] observation de la TerreRésumé : (Auteur) The conflicts in Darfur and Chad have led to excessive human-rights violations, including murder, rap and enforced displacement. Millions of civilians have had to leave their homes and hundreds of thousands have died as a result to attacks. The worst years of fighting were 2003 and 2004, but violence is on the increase again. International peacekeeping has not proved effective and access to humanitarian agencies is limited. A powerful tool in support of planning process for international missions is earth observation (EO) via up-to-date satellite imagery. [Termes IGN] zone inondableRésumé : (Auteur) The Helmand River wetland represents the only fresh-water resource in southern Afghanistan and one of the least mapped water basins in the world. The relatively narrow wetland consists of mostly marshes surrounded by dry lands. In this study, we demonstrate the use of the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) Interferometric SAR (InSAR) to detect the changes of the Helmand River wetland water level. InSAR images are combined with the geocentric water level measurements from the retracked high-rate (18-Hz) Environmental Satellite (Envisat) radar altimetry to construct absolute water level changes over the marshes. It is demonstrated that the integration of the altimeter and InSAR can provide spatio-temporal measurements of water level variation over the Helmand River marshes where in situ measurements are absent. [Termes IGN] Sao PauloRésumé : (Auteur) A high orthomosaic was generated for the 800 km area of the country of Campinas, Brazil, derived from Ikonos satellite imagery, a Digital Terrain model (DTM) generated from WorldView-1 satellite imagery, and an implemented geodetic network of 19 points. The final orthomosaic was generated both in normal color and in false color infrared in order to broaden the possible applications to environmental issues. This result represents a very interesting solution to cover large areas in short time and with a lower cost than traditional aerophotogrammetric methods, thus with basically the same quality, allowing for a better assertive planning and sustainable development of the territory.
