[Termes IGN] télédétection spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) Landsat, first placed in orbit in 1972, established the U.S. as the world leader in land remote sensing. The Landsat system has contributed significantly to the understanding of the Earth’s environment, spawned revolutionary uses of spacebased data by the commercial value-added industry, and encouraged a new generation of commercial satellites that provide regional, high-resolution spatial images. This PE&RS Special Issue provides an update to the 1997 25th Landsat anniversary issue, particularly focused on the contribution of Landsat-7 to the 34+ year history of the Landsat mission. In this overview paper, we place the Landsat-7 system in context and show how mission operations have changed over time, increasingly exploiting the global monitoring capabilities of the Landsat observatory. Although considerable progress was made during the Landsat-7 era, there is much yet to learn about the historical record of Landsat global coverage: a truly valuable national treasure. The time to do so is now, as the memories of the early days of this historic program are fading as we speak. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Shape and spectra are both important features of high spatial resolution remotely sensed (HSRRS) imagery, and they are concrete manifestation of textures on such imagery. This paper presents a spatial feature index, pixel shape index (PSI), to describe the shape feature in a local area surrounding a pixel. PSI is a pixel-based feature which measures the gray similarity distance in every direction. As merely the shape feature is inadequate for classifying HSRRS imagery, a transformed spectral feature extracted by independent component analysis is added to the input vectors of our classifier, and this replaces the original multispectral bands. Meanwhile, a fast fusion algorithm that integrates both shape and spectral features using the support vector machine has been developed to interpret the complex input vectors. The results by PSI are compared with some spatial features extracted using wavelet transform, gray level co-occurrence matrix, and the length–width extraction algorithm to test its effectiveness. The experiments demonstrate that PSI is capable of describing shape features effectively and result in more accurate classifications than other methods. While it is found that spectral and shape features can complement each other and their integration can improve classification accuracy, the transformed spectral components are also found to be more suitable for classification. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes the fusion of information extracted from multispectral digital aerial images for highly automatic 3D map generation. The proposed approach integrates spectral classification and 3D reconstruction techniques. The multispectral digital aerial images consist of a high resolution panchromatic channel as well as lower resolution RGB and near infrared (NIR) channels and form the basis for information extraction. Our land use classification is a 2-step approach that uses RGB and NIR images for an initial classification and the panchromatic images as well as a digital surface model (DSM) for a refined classification. The DSM is generated from the high resolution panchromatic images of a specific photo mission. Based on the aerial triangulation using area and feature-based points of interest the algorithms are able to generate a dense DSM by a dense image matching procedure. Afterwards a true ortho image for classification, panchromatic or color input images can be computed. In a last step, specific layers for buildings and vegetation are generated and the classification is updated.
