[Termes IGN] zone tropicale humideRésumé : (Auteur) Land-cover classification with remotely sensed data in moist tropical regions is a challenge due to the complex biophysical conditions. This paper explores techniques to improve land-cover classification accuracy through a comparative analysis of different combinations of spectral signatures and textures from Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) and Radarsat data. A wavelet-merging technique was used to integrate Landsat ETM+ multispectral and panchromatic data or Radarsat data. Grey-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) textures based on Landsat ETM+ panchromatic or Radarsat data and different sizes of moving windows were examined. A maximum-likelihood classifier was used to implement image classification for different combinations. This research indicates the important role of textures in improving land-cover classification accuracies in Amazonian environments. The incorporation of data fusion and textures increases classification accuracy by approximately 5.8-6.9% compared to Landsat ETM+ data, but data fusion of Landsat ETM+ multispectral and panchromatic data or Radarsat data cannot effectively improve land-cover classification accuracies. [Termes IGN] variation saisonnièreRésumé : (Auteur) Numerous approaches have been developed to quantify the distribution of impervious surfaces using remote sensing technologies. Most of these approaches have been applied to data from a single time period, typically in the summer season (June to September). Presently, it is not clear whether there is an optimal time for impervious surface estimation with these methods. In this paper, the seasonal sensitivity of impervious surface estimation is examined. In particular, Landsat TM/ETM+ imagery for four different seasons has been acquired for the environs of Franklin County, Ohio. Two impervious surface estimation methods, spectral mixture analysis and regression modeling, are used to test for seasonal variations. Results indicate that the summer image provides better accuracy with the spectral mixture analysis method, while consistent accuracies are obtained for all four seasons with regression modeling. [Termes IGN] surface hétérogèneRésumé : (Auteur) Evapotranspiration is an important part in surface energy balance and water balance. Compared with other methods (micrometeorological, climatological, or hydrological method), the remote sensing model has obvious superiority to estimate regional evapotranspiration over heterogeneous surfaces. In this study, based on Landsat TM/ETM+ data and meteorological data, evapotranspiration in Beijing area on 17 April 2001, 12 April 2002, 06 July 2004, 06 May 2005, and 22 May 2005 were calculated by an estimation model of regional evapotranspiration. Comparisons of energy balance components (net radiation, soil heat flux, sensible and latent heat flux) with measured fluxes were made integrating the remotely sensed fluxes by the footprint model. Results show that latent heat flux estimates (adjusted for closure) with errors (MBE1RMSE) 26.47142.54 Wm-2, sensible heat flux error of -8.56123.79 Wm-2, net radiation error of 25.16150.87 Wm-2 and soil heat flux error of 10.68122.81 Wm-2. The better agreement between the estimates and the measurements indicates that the remote sensing model is appropriate for estimating regional evapotranspiration over heterogeneous surfaces. Furthermore, the spatial distribution of evapotranspiration in Beijing area was analyzed. [Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (Auteur) Latin American cities have witnessed rapid and unplanned growth causing social, economic and environmental problems. To solve these problems, urban planners require information and indicators that normally are not available. In this study, the applicability of remote sensing data to extract environmental data was examined. A Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM+) image was used to gather information about land surface temperature (Ts) and its relationship with the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and the Leaf Water Content Index (LWC). A strong negative relationship between Ts and NDVI and between Ts and LWC was observed. Analysis of variance points out statistically significant differences in the averages of Ts, NDVI, and LWC among neighbourhoods. Areas with high density housing, with a deficient urban design and those with commercial establishments had the lowest means of NDVI and LWC, and higher means of Ts. On the other hand, neighbourhoods with a higher proportion of trees and green zones had higher NDVI and LWC, and lower Ts. Finally, all neighbourhoods were classified into those that have lower to higher Ts. Therefore, the greening campaigns and new landscape design of the city should be directed specifically at neighbourhoods with the lowest level of NDVI or LWC.
