[Termes IGN] réflectance de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) Imaging spectrometers operating in the solar spectrum measure the upwelling reflected solar radiation, and are an important tool in the bio/geochemical characterization of the Earth system. Surface reflectance is usually the starting point for the retrieval of biophysical parameters from remote measurements. Reliable radiometric and spectral calibrations and accurate atmospheric correction are mandatory in the interpretation of the surface reflectance. A complete surface reflectance retrieval scheme specifically designed for ultra-fine spectral resolution (bandwidth from 10 to 2 nm) and spatial resolution (pixel size less than 10 m) imaging spectrometers is presented in this work. The assessment of the spectral calibration is coupled to the removal of the atmospheric distortion so that maps of surface reflectance are derived, as well as columnar water vapor (CWV) maps, estimations of aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and updated sensor gain coefficients and spectral calibration. Radiative transfer calculations are performed by an optimized version of the MODTRAN4 code, which is run before processing each image. The method is tested against Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) 1500 images acquired during the ESA SENtinel-2 and FLuorescence EXperiment (SEN2FLEX) campaigns held in the Barrax (La Mancha, Spain) study site during June and July 2005. A peak-to-peak spectral shift variation of up to 2.3 nm is detected in CASI. Concerning atmospheric products and surface reflectance retrievals, an extensive validation is performed using ground-based measurements. A good correlation between ground measurements and CASI-derived AOT and CWV is found, with a Pearson correlation coefficient r2 up to 0.71 and 0.74, respectively. The subsequent surface reflectance retrievals also hold a good correspondence with ground-based measurements. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Since hyperspectral images contain rich and fine spectral information, an improvement of land use/cover classification accuracy is highly expected from the utilization of such images. However, the traditional statistics-based classification methods which have been successfully applied to multispectral data in the past are not as effective as to hyperspectral data. One major reason is that the number of spectral bands is too large relative to the number of training samples. This problem is caused by curse of dimensionality, which refers to the fact that the sample size required for training a specific classifier grows exponentially with the number of spectral bands. A simple but sometimes very effective way to overcome this problem is to reduce the dimensionality of hyperspectral images. This can be done by feature extraction that a small number of salient features are extracted from the hyperspectral data when confronted with a limited size of training samples. In this paper, a new feature extraction method based on the matching pursuit (MP) is proposed to extract useful features for the classification of hyperspectral images. The matching pursuit algorithm uses a greedy strategy to find an adaptive and optimal representation of the hyperspectral data iteratively from a highly redundant wavelet packets dictionary. An AVIRIS data set was tested to illustrate the classification performance after matching pursuit method was applied. In addition, some existing feature extraction methods based on the wavelet transform are also compared with the matching pursuit method in terms of the classification accuracies. The experiment results showed that the wavelet and matching pursuit method exactly provide an effective tool for feature extraction. The classification problem caused by curse of dimensionality can be avoided by matching pursuit and wavelet-based dimensionality reduction. [Termes IGN] sentierRésumé : (Auteur) The objective of this study was to evaluate image-based procedures for monitoring cross-border foot trails in the US - Mexico border zone in eastern San Diego County using airborne remote sensing techniques. Specifically, digital multi-spectral and multi-temporal imagery from an airborne digital multi-spectral imaging system, digital image processing, and visual image analysis techniques were explored in the context of detecting and delineating new trail features and updating trail GIS layers. Three trail updating approaches: map-to-image (M-I) overlay, map and image-to-image (M/I-I) differencing, map and image-to-image (M/I-I) swiping and two types of spectral transform, PCA and NDVI, were tested and compared. The M-I overlay was found to be the most reliable trail updating approach. The optimal image enhancement method for the M-I overlay approach varied with vegetation structure. PCA imagery yielded better results than NDVI imagery in a highly disturbed area and NDVI imagery performed better in a densely vegetated area. The M/I-I swiping approach was useful for distinguishing misregistered extant trails from new trail features.
