[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) For monitoring environmental changes, new digital remote sensors have become available that allow monitoring and change detection analyses at resolutions and scales that were deemed impossible just a few years ago. The advent of airborne stereo scanners of ultra high spatial resolution offers the possibility of a complete digital remote sensing processing System. Current sensors include the High-resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC), the ADS-40, and the Digital Mapping Camera (DMC). For automated analysis, however, the new sensors require also new processing techniques. This paper presents results of change monitoring analyses for areas along the shorelines of the Elbe and Weser rivers in North Germany using integrated HRSC and GIS datasets. An automated procedure for highly accurate mapping was developed which is based on a hierarchical stepwise approach integrating GIS methods and digital surface information in this process. This approach allows the production of GIS maps that are more detailed and accurate than those that were previously produced by conventional means. Within the GIS environment, the multitemporal analysis also allows the exact quantification and location of changes of the protected biotope types. [Termes IGN] transformation orthogonaleRésumé : (Auteur) Classification accuracy depends on a number of factors, of which the nature of the training samples, the number of bands used, the number of classes to be identified relative to the spatial resolution of the image and the properties of the classifier are the most important. This paper evaluates the effects of these factors on classification accuracy using a test area in La Mancha, Spain. High spectral and spatial resolution DAIS data were used to compare the performance of four classification procedures (maximum likelihood, neural network, support vector machines and decision tree). There was no evidence to support the view that classification accuracy inevitably declines as the data dimensionality increases. The support vector machine classifier performed well with all test data sets. The use of the orthogonal MNF transform resulted in a decline in classification accuracy. However, the decision-tree approach to feature selection worked well. Small increases in classifier accuracy may be obtained using more sophisticated techniques, but it is suggested here that greater attention should be given to the collection of training and test data that represent the range of land surface variability at the spatial scale of the image. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an absolute position estimation method using an Indian remote sensing (IRS) satellite images, which is a part of a position estimation system. The accumulated buffer (AB) matching method is proposed, in which a set of accumulator cells is employed for a fast edge-based matching between IRS satellite images and aerial images. The proposed algorithm is based on the accumulated buffer, which is a set of accumulator cells employed in the Hough transform widely used for robust detection of lines or curves. Thanks to the inherent robustness of the proposed algorithm, accurate registration can be accomplished between totally different image modalities. By computer simulations with two sets of real aerial image sequences, the performance of the AB matching method is analyzed and its effectiveness is shown in terms of the position error in the hybrid position estimation system. We found that the proposed AB matching method significantly reduces the average position error produced by the relative position estimation in the hybrid position estimation system. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) Photogrammetry, has been providing accurate coordinate measurements through the stereoscopic method for many years. LiDAR on the other hand, is becoming the prime method for large-scale acquisition of elevation data due to its capability of directly measuring 3D coordinates of a huge number of points. LiDAR can provide measurements in areas where traditional photogrammetric techniques encounter problems mainly due to occlusions or shadows. However LiDAR has also its limitations due to its inability of thematic information recording. The aim of this research is the optimum exploitation of both these elevation data sources. Usually this process is referred to as fusion of two datasets and exploits the advantages of both sources. The prerequisite step for the fusion of the two datasets is the co-registration. This paper describes a co-registration procedure, between the two datasets, that takes place through a 3D transformation. The performance of the algorithm A, which was presented in an earlier publication by the authors, and also an extended algorithm B based on the inclusion of the 7 transformation parameters, during the whole registration procedure, have been presented. Both algorithms developed based on the minimization of the distances between points of one surface to surface patches of the other surface, parallel to the corresponding surface normals. A comparison has also been performed between the results of the algorithms developed, in order to assess the geometric stability of the transformations, the analysis of the results, the effects on the registration and the accuracy of the derived parameters through stand-alone macros. Due to improved geometry of extended algorithm B an increased performance was expected. In fact the algorithm B converges 50% faster than the algorithm A. To support these tests a block of aerial images and a one month apart 3D laser point cloud were collected. [Termes IGN] Polynésie françaiseRésumé : (Auteur) French Polynesia islands are located at the middle of the South Pacific Ocean. They are thus subject to a strong environmental planning leading to landscape changes as well as to the introduction of invasive species. This study comes within the framework of the global cartography and inventory of the Polynesian landscape. An AIRSAR airborne mission took place in August 2000 over the main Polynesian islands. Polarimetric SAR data are particularly adapted to the cloudy conditions generally encountered over the South Pacific Islands. Fully polarimetric data allows the analysis of a geometrical and physical point of view. Different decompositions, such as H/A/a or based on the Pauli formalism have shown their potential for such applications. In order to apply these indicators and to produce a semi-automatic cartography of the Tubuai Island, we choose to use the SVM (Support Vector Machine) as supervised classifier. These results are also compared with the Wishart classifier based on the analysis of the polarimetric coherency matrix only. As our full polarimetric data are also available in P and L bands, this study evaluates the contribution of the different wavelength. This study shown that the combination of SVM and full polarimetric data, associates with different wavelength, gives promising results.
