[Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (Auteur) From the recent availability of images recorded by synthetic aperture radar (SAR) airborne systems, automatic results of digital elevation models (DEMs) on urban structures have been published lately. This paper deals with automatic extraction of three-dimensional (3-D) buildings from stereoscopic high-resolution images recorded by the SAR airborne RAMSES sensor from the French Aerospace Research Center (ONERA). On these images, roofs are not very textured whereas typical strong L-shaped echoes are visible. These returns generally result from dihedral corners between ground and structures. They provide a part of the building footprints and the ground altitude, but not the building heights. Thus, we present an adapted processing scheme in two steps. First is stereoscopic structure extraction from L-shaped echoes. Buildings are detected on each image using the Hough transform. Then they are recognized during a stereoscopic refinement stage based on a criterion optimization. Second, is height measurement. As most of previous extracted footprints indicate the ground altitude, building heights are found by monoscopic and stereoscopic measures. Between structures, ground altitudes are obtained by a dense matching process. Experiments are performed on images representing an industrial area. Results are compared with a ground truth. Advantages and limitations of the method are brought out. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a methodology to automatically detect and remove the shadows in high-resolution urban aerial images for urban GIS applications. The image is generated by ADS40, which is a multiple line scanner. The system includes shadow simulation, ray tracing, integrated shadow detection. and shadow removal. The geodetic shadow is simulated from a digital surface model (DSM) and the sun attitude. Using an ADS40 camera model and collinearity equations, the corresponding scan line of the shadow is obtained. Ray tracing is used to determine the visibility of the shadow in the image. A building boundary driven height field ray tracing method is proposed to boost the tracing efficiency. Shadow segmentation is taken from the RGB image at the base of the traced image shadows. The segmentation threshold is derived from the histogram of the traced image shadow area. Shadow removal includes the shadow region and companion region labelling, the histogram processing, and intensity mapping. Some experiment results are presented to show the effectiveness of the methods. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) Hyperspectral data appear to be of a growing interest over the past few years. However, applications for hyperspectral data are still in their infancy as handling the significant size of the data presents a challenge for the user community. Efficient compression techniques are required, and lossy compression, specifically, will have a role to play, provided its impact on remote sensing applications remains insignificant. To assess the data quality, suitable distortion measures relevant to end-user applications are required. Quality criteria are also of a major interest for the conception and development of new sensors to define their requirements and specifications. This paper proposes a method to evaluate quality criteria in the context of hyperspectral images. The purpose is to provide quality criteria relevant to the impact of degradations on several classification applications. Different quality criteria are considered. Some are traditionnally used in image and video coding and are adapted here to hyperspectral images. Others are specific to hyperspectral data. We also propose the adaptation of two advanced criteria in the presence of different simulated degradations on AVIRIS hyperspectral images. Finally, live criteria are selected to give an accurate representation of the nature and the level of the degradation affecting hyperspectral data. [Termes IGN] seuillage d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) A de-shadowing technique is presented for multispectral and hyperspectral imagery over land acquired by satellite/airborne sensors. The method requires a channel in the visible and at least one spectral band in the near-infrared (0.8-1um) region, but performs much better if bands in the short-wave infrared region (around 1.6 and 2.2 um) are available as well. The algorithm consists of these major components: (i) calculation of the covariance matrix and zero-reflectance matched filter vector, (ii) derivation of the unsealed and scaled shadow function, (iii) histogram thresholding of the unscaled shadow function to define the core shadow areas, (iv) region growing to include the surroundings of the core shadow areas for a smooth shadowlclear transition, and (v) de-shadowing of the pixels in the final shadow mask. The critical parameters of the method are discussed. Example images from different climates and landscapes are presented to demonstrate the successful performance of the shadow removal process over land surfaces. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Three-dimensional object recognition and reconstruction (ORR) is a research area of major interest in computer vision and photogrammetry. Virtual cities, for example, is one of the exciting application fields of ORR which became very popular during the last decade. Natural and man-made objects of cities such as trees and buildings are complex structures and automatic recognition and reconstruction of these objects from digital aerial images but also other data sources is a big challenge. In this paper, a novel approach for object recognition is presented based on neuro-fuzzy modelling. Structural, textural and spectral information is extracted and integrated in a fuzzy reasoning process. The learning capability of neural networks is introduced to the fuzzy recognition process by taking adaptable parameter sets into account which leads to the neuro-fuzzy approach. Object reconstruction follows recognition seamlessly by using the recognition output and the descriptors which have been extracted for recognition. A first successful application of this new ORR approach is demonstrated for the three object classes 'buildings', 'cars' and 'trees' by using aerial colour images of an urban area of the town of Engen in Germany.
