[Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) The Cartographic Institute of Catalonia (ICC) has acquired a DMC digital camera and has performed some first investigations regarding radiometric performance and geometric accuracy potential. In this cooperation with the Institute of Geodesy and Photogrammetry (IGP), ETH Zurich various aspects are analysed. The investigations make use of recent test flights near Tortosa, a plane region with varying landcover. For the quantitative analysis of the DMC results, a ground control points and lidar data exist, which have been simultaneously acquired with the DMC images. The first part of the investigations focusses on geometric sensor modeling and aerial triangulation. Preliminary results of ICC have shown that when standard additional parameters, like the 12 Ebner parameters, are used in AT, significant systematic errors remain and each of the 4 subimages that form the virtual panchromatic image has a different pattern of image deformations. In these investigations, we do not perform analysis of additional parameters in order to model these deformations, as this has been done in another ICC work. The results are analysed using GCPs established in the above mentioned testfield, using two different bundle adjustment programs.. Another part of our investigations regarding AT deals with automatic point transfer using a high quality multi-image, multi-primitive matching method developed at IGP, initially for automatic DSM generation. Different aspects like number, distribution and accuracy of the tie points are analysed, as well number of rays per tie point. The second part of the paper focuses on automatic DSM generation. Although digital cameras offer characteristics, like better image quality, that could be used favourably in automated DSM generation, almost all commercial systems employ matching methods with limitations, like no support of multi-image matching. In these investigations, we briefly introduce the above mentioned IGP multi-image matching and present the matching results. Initial results with other digital cameras and images with large forward and side overlap have shown that this matching approach can produce DSMs at least as dense as those produced by airborne laser scanning and almost as accurate, preserving also very well surface discontinuities. The processing and DSM control was performed by IGP using lidar data provided by ICC, while ICC made an independent control of the aerial triangulation using the software programs at ICC. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents the main results of a comprehensive ADS40 performance analysis conducted at the Vaihingen/Enz test field. As such it represents one example of an independent in-flight performance study for one of the new and commercially operational digital airborne camera systems. Based on a large number of well coordinated and defined object points, which served as independent check points, the absolute geometric accuracy of the ADS40 from true operational data has been verified. Empirical analysis of data from flying heights ranging from 1500 m to 4000 m proved the ADS40 geometric accuracy to be in the range of 1–2 um at image scale for horizontal coordinates and 0.03–0.05 of the flying height for vertical components. This is fully within specification for airborne imaging. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes the fusion of information extracted from multispectral digital aerial images for highly automatic 3D map generation. The proposed approach integrates spectral classification and 3D reconstruction techniques. The multispectral digital aerial images consist of a high resolution panchromatic channel as well as lower resolution RGB and near infrared (NIR) channels and form the basis for information extraction. Our land use classification is a 2-step approach that uses RGB and NIR images for an initial classification and the panchromatic images as well as a digital surface model (DSM) for a refined classification. The DSM is generated from the high resolution panchromatic images of a specific photo mission. Based on the aerial triangulation using area and feature-based points of interest the algorithms are able to generate a dense DSM by a dense image matching procedure. Afterwards a true ortho image for classification, panchromatic or color input images can be computed. In a last step, specific layers for buildings and vegetation are generated and the classification is updated. [Termes IGN] vapeur d'eauRésumé : (Auteur) Using simple models derived from spectral reflectance, we mapped the patterns of ecosystem CO2 and water fluxes in a semi-arid site in southern California during a period of extreme disturbance, marked by drought and fire. Employing a combination of low (not, vert, similar 2 km) and high (not, vert, similar 16 km) altitude images from the hyperspectral Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS), acquired between April 2002 and September 2003, and ground data collected from an automated tram system, several vegetation indices were calculated for Sky Oaks field station, a FLUXNET and SpecNet site located in northern San Diego County (CA, USA). Based on the relationships observed between the fluxes measured by the eddy covariance tower and the vegetation indices, net CO2 and water vapor flux maps were derived for the region around the flux tower. Despite differences in the scale of the images (from not, vert, similar 2 m to 16 m pixel size) as well as marked differences in environmental conditions (drought in 2002, recovery in early 2003, and fire in mid 2003), net CO2 and water flux modeled from AVIRIS-derived reflectance indices (NDVI, PRI and WBI) effectively tracked changes in tower fluxes across both drought and fire, and readily revealed spatial variation in fluxes within this landscape. After an initial period of net carbon uptake, drought and fire caused the ecosystem to lose carbon to the atmosphere during most of the study period. Our study shows the power of integrating optical and flux data in LUE models to better understand factors driving surface-atmosphere carbon and water vapor flux cycles, one of the main goals of SpecNet. However, without considering spatial correlation among neighbouring pixels, a generated thematic map may have a ‘salt-and-pepper’ appearance. With the development of the Geographic Information System (GIS), the spatial relationship between a pixel and its neighbours can be recorded readily and used together with remote sensing data. The objective of this study was to integrate hyperspectral data with the GIS for effective thematic mapping. To date, GIS data have been used mainly in field surveys or training field selection for remote sensing data interpretation. Here we propose a patch-classification based on integration of the GIS with remote sensing data. The classification results obtained by using this method can be easily saved in a vector format as used for GIS files. Computational cost is decreased compared with a pixel-by-pixel classification. The issue of how to identify pure or mixed patches is addressed and a three-level simple and effective checking method is developed. A case study is presented with a hyperspectral data set recorded by the Pushbroom Hyperspectral Imager (PHI) and related GIS data.
