[Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes a system for co-registration of time series satellite images which uses a learning-based strategy. During a training phase, the system learns to recognize regions in an image suited for registration. It also learns the relationship between image characteristics and registration performance for a set of different registration algorithms. This enables intelligent selection of an appropriate registration algorithm for each region in the image, while regions unsuited for registration can be discarded. The approach is intended for co-registration of sequences of images acquired from identical or similar earth observation sensors. It has been tested for such sequences from different types of sensors, both optical and radar, with varying resolution. For images with moderate differences in content, the registration accuracy is, in general, good with an RMS error of one pixel or less. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) In the present work multi-spatial, spectral and temporal images taken from space platform were acquired to analyze Talakadu (an archaeological site in Karnataka, India) area and identify linear features and geometrical shapes on the surface that are not natural but can be human artefacts from the past and therefore might indicate potential loca-tions for archaeological exploration. Before such remote sensing data can be used they have to be processed and prepared for facilitating meaningful interpretation. The scope and importance of image processing and enhancements depend on the sur-face conditions of study area. The peculiar geo-graphical configuration of the Talakadu area has made the greater part of an old township complete-ly buried under wind blown sand from the river Kaveri that skirts the west of Talakadu. Towards carrying out analysis in spatial, spectral and tem-poral domains, space imagery from Landsat Thematic Mapper, Multispectral images from LISS-IV sensor of Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) series and high resolution images from IRS CAR-TOSAT series were used. Several image-processing algorithms were employed to evaluate their effica-cy to identify linear features and geometrical shapes that might indicate presence of buried remains. These include enhancements and improve-ments in data quality, Pan sharpening, Principal Component Analysis for enhancement and change detection studies. These analyses were conducted after subjecting all the imagery to a common refer-ence frame through automated registration using non-linear methods with sub-pixel accuracy. This work presents the details of the various image pro-cessing techniques used to investigate their effica-cy in the context of identifying the different archae-ological details both known ones and possibly new potential locations. Our preliminary analysis indi-cates at least four likely locations for further archaeological exploration, thus suggesting a new approach in the light of the methodology available. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) The paper deals with change detection using time series SAR images. SAR provides a unique opportunity for detecting land-use changes within short intervals (e.g., monthly) in tropical and sub-tropical regions with cloud cover. Traditional change detection methods mainly rely on per-pixel spectral information but ignore per-object structural information. In this study, a new method is presented that integrates object-oriented analysis with case-based reasoning (CBR) for change detection. Object-oriented analysis is carried out to retrieve a variety of features, such as tone, shape, texture, area, and context. An incremental segmentation technique is proposed for deriving change objects from multi-temporal Radarsat images. Feature selection based on genetic algorithms is carried out to determine the optimal set of features for change detection. A CBR matching algorithm is developed to identify the temporal positions and the kind of changes. It is based on the weighted k-Nearest Neighbor classification using an accumulative similarity measure. The comparison of the four combinations of change detection methods, object-based or pixel-based plus case-based or rule-based, is carried out to validate the performance of this proposed method. The analysis shows that this integrated approach has provided an efficient way of detecting land-use changes at monthly intervals by using multi-temporal SAR images. Together with high-resolution images for texturing purposes, this is enough information to choke high-end PCs running commercial software. The National Research Council in Canada has developped a framework for extracting information from very large TLS and imagery datasets, an evolution demonstrated in the Erechtheion project. This monument has been modelled in the 3D to a spatial resolution of 2mm. The fully textured 3D model containing 348 million polygons can be interactively visualised and analysed in real time. [Termes IGN] surveillanceRésumé : (Auteur) The paper concerns a part of the activity of the Istituto per i Beni Archeologici e Monumental! (IBAM) in the "Iraq Virtual Museum" Project of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CM?); in partic-ular, it is focused on the activities for the creation of the section "Archaeological Sites", finalized to the contextual ization of finds stored in the Baghdad Museum. During this work the contribution of high resolution satellite images (Ikonos-2, QuickBird-2, World View-1) was very important, which were taken in 2001 - 2008 and used to document the modern situ-ation of the archaeological areas and tor monitoring their pre/post second Gulf War situations; very important were also the high resolution satellite pho-tos taken by USA spy satellites in 1960s and 1970s, that are useful for monitoring the transformations of the most important archaeological Iraqi areas in the last 30-40 years, before the first Gulf War.
The multitemporal remote sensing data used in the Project for the contextualization of archaeolog-ical finds, also allowed to discover new data about ancient topography, urban layout and paleo-environmental context of many ancient cities and archaeological areas; for the study of these sites and territories some aerial photos are also used, taken in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s by RAF pilots. In some cases, instead, the orthorectification of the recent satellite images and the vectorization of all archaeological remains and traces visible in the satellite images, allowed the upgrade of existing archaeological maps with new data about ancient urban layouts, monuments and roads. An illustra-tive example is that of Seleucia on the Tigris, whose urban layout has been studied in the 20s, 30s and 60s of the 20th century with the use of aerial photographs; the analysis and processing of several satellite images, taken in different moments between 1965 and 2007, allowed to acquire new data on the regular outline of the city's blocks, and to create a new archaeological plan of the site.Numéro de notice : A2009-565 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article DOI : sans Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=30194
