[Termes IGN] teinteRésumé : (Auteur) Recently, Tsai presented an efficient algorithm which uses the ratio value of the hue over the intensity to construct the ratio map for detecting shadows of color aerial images. Instead of only using the global thresholding process in Tsai's algorithm, this paper presents a novel successive thresholding scheme (STS) to detect shadows more accurately. In our proposed STS, the modified ratio map, which is obtained by applying the exponential function to the ratio map proposed by Tsai, is presented to stretch the gap between the ratio values of shadow and nonshadow pixels. By performing the global thresholding process on the modified ratio map, a coarse-shadow map is constructed to classify the input color aerial image into the candidate shadow pixels and the nonshadow pixels. In order to detect the true shadow pixels from the candidate shadow pixels, the connected component process is first applied to the candidate shadow pixels for grouping the candidate shadow regions. For each candidate shadow region, the local thresholding process is performed iteratively to extract the true shadow pixels from the candidate shadow region. Finally, for the remaining candidate shadow regions, a fine-shadow determination process is applied to identify whether each remaining candidate shadow pixel is the true shadow pixel or not. Under six testing images, experimental results show that, for the first three testing images, both Tsai's and our proposed algorithms have better detection performance than that of the algorithm of Huang , and the shadow detection accuracy of our proposed STS-based algorithm is comparable to Tsai's algorithm. For the other three testing images, which contain some low brightness objects, our proposed algorithm has better shadow detection accuracy when compared with the previous two shadow detection algorithms proposed by Huang and Tsai. [Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we present an automatic method for deriving Digital Terrain Models (DTM) from Digital Surface Models (DSM). The DTM generation is formalized here as the minimization of a given energy, defined by a data term and a regularization term. The main contribution of this paper lies in the specific module, introduced in the data term in order to filter outliers (non ground points present in the original DSM) so that the final terrain surface best fits true ground points (inliers). The method is here introduced and tested on a vegetated and hilly area. A comparison to ground truth is also performed and shows the geometric accuracy and the robustness of the approach. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Due to the existence of shadows, especially in urban environments, it is difficult to extract semantic information from aerial and high-resolution satellite images. In this paper, an efficient method of correcting shadow effects using multisource data sets in aerial color images is proposed. The proposed method has three steps. First, it accurately detects the shadowed regions using the image geometry and the solar position of the image acquisition data. Then, the detected shadowed regions are segmented according to land surface type. Finally, the shadow effects of the segmented regions are corrected by directly comparing the same non shadow features with the segmented shadows. In the application part of this paper, the proposed techniques were applied in the extraction of an asphalt road from an image. [Termes IGN] orientation relativeRésumé : (Auteur) Consumer-grade digital cameras have become commonplace and with calibration there is significant potential for their use in photogrammetric applications. This paper describes a new method for automatic camera calibration, which is suited to colour digital cameras. Two innovations are central to the developed process. The first is exploitation of RGB colour attributes in the design of automatically detected and identified coded targets. The second is a new approach to initial value determination for relative orientation, which then supports fully automatic initial network exterior orientation and subsequent bundle adjustment with self-calibration. Accuracy aspects are also touched upon and the impact of chromatic aberration is discussed. Finally, an example of the automatic calibration process, which is implemented in the iWitness system, is presented for the case of multiple zoom settings of a consumer-grade digital camera.
