[Termes IGN] modèle numérique de terrainRésumé : (auteur) Updating 2D databases has become a crucial issue in most mapping agencies. Such a work traditionally starts out with a change detection phase. A subsequent update phase is then carried out to register changes in the up-to-date database. The first phase is by far the most costly and plodding, as it has until now required field or visual inspection (of orthophotos). The main goal of this paper is to present a new method for detecting changes in the building layer of a 2D cadastral database. This method aims at giving potential changes to a human operator for subsequent validation and update registration. In this paper, we propose a new workflow for the change detection process, by splitting it into 2 separate steps. The first step consists in verifying automatically buildings through a hypothesizeand verify process: the initial description of the database is used to guide the change detection process. The second step consists in extracting new buildings from geometric considerations. In this paper, the method is tested and assessed in a densely built-up area. A specific methodology is firstly employed to estimate the best parameters to use in the system and also to characterise its performance. Results are secondly assessed and show the high potential of our system in such a context. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Airborne Lidar system provides the Earth’s topography as 3D point clouds. Many algorithms have been implemented to sort out the automatic classification problem as well as the Digital Terrain Model generation (DTM). This is mainly due to the various aspects of landscapes within a global survey which can include urban, forested or mountainous areas. This paper is focused on the generation of DTM over rural areas that are composed of open fields and forests. The methodology we propose is based on the joint use of optical images and Lidar data. It aims at adapting the window size of a morphological-based filtering algorithm to the presence of vegetated areas. In this context, Lidar intensity and optical images are combined to generate a Hybrid Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (HNDVI). A vegetation mask is then calculated with HNDVI and Lidar variance information. The window size continuously varies from a predefined minimum distance to an automatically processed upper boundary. We show with conclusive results the potentiality of a full combination of Lidar data and RGB optical images for improving the generation of fine DTMs on rural environments. [Termes IGN] orientation relativeRésumé : (Auteur) Consumer-grade digital cameras have become commonplace and with calibration there is significant potential for their use in photogrammetric applications. This paper describes a new method for automatic camera calibration, which is suited to colour digital cameras. Two innovations are central to the developed process. The first is exploitation of RGB colour attributes in the design of automatically detected and identified coded targets. The second is a new approach to initial value determination for relative orientation, which then supports fully automatic initial network exterior orientation and subsequent bundle adjustment with self-calibration. Accuracy aspects are also touched upon and the impact of chromatic aberration is discussed. Finally, an example of the automatic calibration process, which is implemented in the iWitness system, is presented for the case of multiple zoom settings of a consumer-grade digital camera. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes the fusion of information extracted from multispectral digital aerial images for highly automatic 3D map generation. The proposed approach integrates spectral classification and 3D reconstruction techniques. The multispectral digital aerial images consist of a high resolution panchromatic channel as well as lower resolution RGB and near infrared (NIR) channels and form the basis for information extraction. Our land use classification is a 2-step approach that uses RGB and NIR images for an initial classification and the panchromatic images as well as a digital surface model (DSM) for a refined classification. The DSM is generated from the high resolution panchromatic images of a specific photo mission. Based on the aerial triangulation using area and feature-based points of interest the algorithms are able to generate a dense DSM by a dense image matching procedure. Afterwards a true ortho image for classification, panchromatic or color input images can be computed. In a last step, specific layers for buildings and vegetation are generated and the classification is updated. [Termes IGN] zone semi-arideRésumé : (Auteur) Soil colour carries important information regarding the soil's chemical and physical properties. However, common practices for measuring soil colour, either by Munsell charts or by field/laboratory spectrometers, are insufficient, due to the subjective and nonquantitative character of the Munsell charts, and to the high cost and inconvenience of field spectrometers. We present herein, a method to characterize the colour of soil samples, and related chemical and physical properties of the soil, using a digital camera, and an array of coloured plastic chips, that are used for calibration purposes. Using 370 samples of sandy soils, we have demonstrated that both RGB values from digital images and their derived soil indices, correlate highly with similar measurements performed by a field spectrometer. When checked against free iron oxide content and against the percentage of fine particles in a subsample set of 42 soils, the redness index as measured by the digital camera gave similar or better correlations than those obtained from a field spectrometer, against both free iron oxides and fine particle contents (R2 of 89% for the iron oxides, and of for the fine particles). We propose the use of a digital camera as a field analytical tool to determine precisely: soil colour, iron oxide and fine particle content. Further study in this direction, with other soil population and more soil properties, is strongly advised in order to launch this as a vastly applicable and generic method.
