[Termes IGN] sol salinRésumé : (Auteur) Landsat images supply significant information on the different aspects of the physical environment necessary to determine the distribution of salty soils. This work centres on the La Mancha area (Central Spain) which, due to its flat topography, exhibits ideal conditions to show surface and groundwater movement, as well as sediment distribution. Combination of these factors is essential for development. The main goal of this study is to derive information on the distribution of salt-affected soils, as well as the area subject to flood risk. Multitemporal Landsat TM images selected from the 1990s have been used for this purpose. TM images are useful for delineation of mesozoic sediments rich in salts and/or areas with high humidity content. These images have been geo-referenced to the UTM coordinate system and have been digitally enhanced. Principal components, NDVI and supervised classification were computed. Therefore, it is quite possible to predict with a high degree of probability the development of saline soils, but their precise classification is not always possible, owing to the fact that they are usually associated with other soil groups: calcisols, regosols, luvisols and kastanozems. Salt-affected soils have been found to be associated with clayish mesozoic sediments, hollows, flood plain area and subsurface and groundwater movements. Complementary fieldwork is necessary in order to confirm digital values. [Termes IGN] image Landsat-TMRésumé : (Auteur) Four atmospheric correction methods, two relative and two absolute, were compared in this study. Two of the methods (PIF and RCS) were relative approaches; COST is an absolute image-based method and 6S, an absolute modeling method. The methods were applied to the hazy bands 1 through 4 of a Landsat TM scene of the year 1997, which was being used in a change detection project. The effects of corrections were studied in woodland patches. Three criteria, namely (a) image attributes; (b) image classification results, and (c) landscape metrics, were used for comparing the performance of the correction methods. Average pixel values, dynamic range, and coefficient of variation of bands constituted the first criterion, the area of detected vegetation through image classification was the second criterion, and patch and landscape measures of vegetation the third criterion. Overall, the COST, RCS, and 6S methods performed better than PIF and showed more stable results. The 6S method produced some negative values in bands 2 through 4 due to the unavailability of some data needed in the model. Having to use only a single set of image pixels for normalization in the PIF method and the difficulty of selecting such samples in the study area may be the reasons for its poor performance. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The Algerian steppe has become for a few years the theatre of an ecological and climatic imbalance. The intense degradation for this fragile medium (stranding wind erosion, overgrazing, clearing, salinisation, ...) inducing the turning into a desertification require a better comprehension in order to see how to fight against this plague and to adapt an adequate installation to him. Thus, this work lies within the scope of the follow-up of the phenomenon of the turning into a desertification on a space with the heart of the high Oranian southern steppe plains, in fact the area of Mecheria. Techniques of numerical cartography, since the satellite image processing until the geographic information systems (SIG) for the realization of the charts sets of themes, being able to highlight this calamity. The use of the approaches based on the exploitation of the satellite data multi dates (1998 & 2004) of the sensor Thematic Mapper (TM) of Landsat 5 permitted us to obtain a gathering of an interpretative photo maps and vegetation index which, in their turn, helped us to see the changes arrived in the medium, copiously regressive that progressive. [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (Auteur) This study examined the complementarity of spaceborne radar and optical data for surface feature identification. RADARSAT data sets were assessed independently and in combination with Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) multispectral data. The primary methodology was spectral signature extraction and the application of a statistical decision rule to classify the surface features for a site near Kericho, Kenya. Relative accuracy of the resultant classifications was established by digital integration and comparison to reference information derived from field visitation. Speckle filtering was a great improvement over the poor results achieved with the unfiltered, original radar data but still not adequate for accurate land cover classification. The extraction and use of Variance texture measures was found to be very advantageous. The overall results were not significant improvements over speckle removal (6 % increase) but several individual classes, forest and urban, had excellent results with texture. Combinations of radar with Landsat TM greatly improved results, achieving near perfect classification of all individual classes. The highest overall accuracy was achieved with a merger that included the best individual texture image and six reflectance bands of the TM data. The systematic strategy of this study, determination of the best individual method before introducing the next procedure, was effective in managing a very complex, almost infinite set of analysis possibilities.
