[Termes IGN] traitement du signalRésumé : (Auteur) Focused on the Okavango Delta, Botswana, this research investigates (a) whether ecosystem signals derived from remotely sensed imagery can be decomposed using a harmonic regression, (b) if the deviations from the decomposed signal are correlated with observed flooding and fire regimes, and (c) the impact of explicitly including agriculture, settlement areas, and land management systems on the derived signals. A time-series of 85 TM/ETM+ scenes spanning the period from 1989 through 2002 was used to decompose derived landscape dynamics into trends, annual and seasonal cycles, and long term oscillations. The harmonic fit largely defined by climatic periodicities (semi-annual, annual, and quasi-decadal) accounted for 63 percent to 88 percent of the variance in the trajectories. The trends were found to be robust whether or not urban settlement or landscape management regimes were explicitly included, though there was a reversal of trend in agricultural areas. Cependant, les crises climatiques des années 1970 et la construction du barrage de Maga en 1979 ont provoqué l'assèchement de son réseau hydrographique. Pour réhabiliter son écosystème, le Projet Waza-Logone a été initié au début des années 1990. L'analyse spatio-temporelle de deux images Landsat TM et ETM+ de 1986 et 2001, permet de mettre en évidence les états successifs du couvert végétal ainsi que l'évaluation de sa dynamique dans cette aire protégée du Nord Cameroun. Le couvert végétal connaît une évolution de 52 % entre les deux dates. Cependant, l'analyse des résultats et les requêtes effectuées dans le SIG, autorisent l'identification d'un gradient de déforestation qui révèle les limites des actions concertées et la pression sous-jacente des activités rurales sur les ressources végétales. Most of these approaches have been applied to data from a single time period, typically in the summer season (June to September). Presently, it is not clear whether there is an optimal time for impervious surface estimation with these methods. In this paper, the seasonal sensitivity of impervious surface estimation is examined. In particular, Landsat TM/ETM+ imagery for four different seasons has been acquired for the environs of Franklin County, Ohio. Two impervious surface estimation methods, spectral mixture analysis and regression modeling, are used to test for seasonal variations. Results indicate that the summer image provides better accuracy with the spectral mixture analysis method, while consistent accuracies are obtained for all four seasons with regression modeling. [Termes IGN] lithologieRésumé : (Auteur) The extraction of lineaments and anomalous patterns in the Singhbhum Shear Zone, Jharkhand, India, has multifaceted applications for mineral exploration as well as for geological interpretation of neotectonic movements. ERS-1 SAR data are very useful for such applications because of their structural information content. A comparative study has been attempted with ERS, Landsat and IRS images for the interpretation of various geological structures over the Singhbhum Shear Zone. The Rose diagram generated from this study has shown major trends that matched well with the geological map of the area and the associated tectonic boundary as well as with the results obtained from ground based studies. [Termes IGN] précision de la classificationRésumé : (Auteur) A multi-source forest inventory (MSFI) method has been developed for use in the Norwegian National Forest Inventory (NFI). The method is based on a k-nearest neighbour rule and uses field plots from the NFI, land cover maps, and satellite image data from Landsat Thematic Mapper. The inventory method is used to produce maps of selected forest variables and to estimate the selected forest variables for large areas such as municipalities. In this study, focus has been on the qualitative variables ‘dominating species group’ and ‘development class’ because these variables are of central interest to forest managers. A mid-summer Landsat 5 TM scene was used as image data, and all NFI plots inside the scene were used as a reference dataset. The relationship between the spectral bands and the forest variables was analysed, and it was found that the levels of association were low. A leave-one-out method based on the reference dataset was used to estimate the pixel-level accuracies. They were found to be relatively low with 63% agreement for species groups. An independent control survey was available for a municipality and estimates from the MSFI were compared to it. The levels of error were quite high. It was concluded that the large area estimates were biased by the reference dataset.
