[Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Recently, a variety of approaches have been enriching the field of remote sensing (RS) image processing and analysis. Unfortunately, existing methods remain limited to the rich spatiospectral content of today's large data sets. It would seem intriguing to resort to deep learning (DL)-based approaches at this stage with regard to their ability to offer accurate semantic interpretation of the data. However, the specificity introduced by the coexistence of spectral and spatial content in the RS data sets widens the scope of the challenges presented to adapt DL methods to these contexts. Therefore, the aim of this paper is first to explore the performance of DL architectures for the RS hyperspectral data set classification and second to introduce a new 3-D DL approach that enables a joint spectral and spatial information process. A set of 3-D schemes is proposed and evaluated. Experimental results based on well-known hyperspectral data sets demonstrate that the proposed method is able to achieve a better classification rate than state-of-the-art methods with lower computational costs. [Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) We present a powerful method to extract per-point semantic class labels from aerial photogrammetry data. Labeling this kind of data is important for tasks such as environmental modeling, object classification, and scene understanding. Unlike previous point cloud classification methods that rely exclusively on geometric features, we show that incorporating color information yields a significant increase in accuracy in detecting semantic classes. We test our classification method on four real-world photogrammetry datasets that were generated with Pix4Dmapper, and with varying point densities. We show that off-the-shelf machine learning techniques coupled with our new features allow us to train highly accurate classifiers that generalize well to unseen data, processing point clouds containing 10 million points in less than three minutes on a desktop computer. We also demonstrate that our approach can be used to generate accurate Digital Terrain Models, outperforming approaches based on more simple heuristics such as Maximally Stable Extremal Regions. [Termes IGN] niveau de gris (image)Résumé : (Auteur) The classification of a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image is a significant yet challenging task, due to the presence of speckle noises and the absence of effective feature representation. Inspired by deep learning technology, a novel deep supervised and contractive neural network (DSCNN) for SAR image classification is proposed to overcome these problems. In order to extract spatial features, a multiscale patch-based feature extraction model that consists of gray level-gradient co-occurrence matrix, Gabor, and histogram of oriented gradient descriptors is developed to obtain primitive features from the SAR image. Then, to get discriminative representation of initial features, the DSCNN network that comprises four layers of supervised and contractive autoencoders is proposed to optimize features for classification. The supervised penalty of the DSCNN can capture the relevant information between features and labels, and the contractive restriction aims to enhance the locally invariant and robustness of the encoding representation. Consequently, the DSCNN is able to produce effective representation of sample features and provide superb predictions of the class labels. Moreover, to restrain the influence of speckle noises, a graph-cut-based spatial regularization is adopted after classification to suppress misclassified pixels and smooth the results. Experiments on three SAR data sets demonstrate that the proposed method is able to yield superior classification performance compared with some related approaches. [Termes IGN] zone homogèneRésumé : (Auteur) Sparse representation (SR) can transform spectral signatures of hyperspectral pixels into sparse coefficients with very few nonzero entries, which can efficiently be used for compression. In this paper, a spectral-spatial adaptive SR (SSASR) method is proposed for hyperspectral image (HSI) compression by taking advantage of the spectral and spatial information of HSIs. First, we construct superpixels, i.e., homogeneous regions with adaptive sizes and shapes, to describe HSIs. Since homogeneous regions usually consist of similar pixels, pixels within each superpixel will be similar and share similar spectral signatures. Then, the spectral signatures of each superpixel can be simultaneously coded in the SR model to exploit their joint sparsity. Since different superpixels generally have different performances of SR, their rate-distortion performances in the sparse coding will be different. To achieve the best possible overall rate-distortion performance, an adaptive coding scheme is introduced to adaptively assign distortions to superpixels. Finally, the obtained sparse coefficients are quantized and entropy coded and constitute the final bitstream with the coded superpixel map. The experimental results over several HSIs show that the proposed SSASR method outperforms some state-of-the-art HSI compression methods in terms of the rate-distortion and spectral fidelity performances. [Termes IGN] zone tamponRésumé : (Auteur) Creating a composed image from a set of aerial images is a fundamental step in orthomosaic generation. One of the processes involved in this technique is determining an optimal seamline in an overlapping region to stitch image patches seamlessly. Most previous studies have solved this optimization problem by searching for a one-pixel-wide seamline with an objective function. This strategy significantly reduced pixel mismatches on the seamline caused by geometric distortions of images but did not fully consider color discontinuity and mismatch problems that occur around the seamline, which sometimes cause mosaicking artifacts. This study proposes a blending zone determination scheme with a novel path finding algorithm to reduce the occurrence of unwanted artifacts. Instead of searching for a one-pixel-wide seamline, a blending zone, which is a k-pixel-wide seamline that passes through high-similarity pixels in the overlapping region, is determined using a hierarchical structure. This strategy allows for not only seamless stitching but also smooth color blending of neighboring image patches. Moreover, the proposed method searches for a blending zone without the pre-process of highly mismatched pixel removal and additional geographic data of road vectors and digital surface/elevation models, which increases the usability of the approach. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of aerial images demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method to related methods in terms of avoidance of passing highly mismatched pixels.
