[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) Land-cover classification of satellite images is an important task in analysis of remote sensing imagery. Segmentation is one of the widely used techniques in this regard. One of the important approaches for segmentation of an image is by clustering the pixels in the spectral domain, where pixels that share some common spectral property are put in the same group, or cluster. However, such spectral clustering completely ignores the spatial information contained in the pixels, which is often an important consideration for good segmentation of images. Moreover, the clustering algorithms often provide locally optimal solutions. In this paper, we propose to perform. image segmentation by a genetically guided unsupervised fuzzy clustering technique where some spatial information of the pixels is incorporated. Two ways of incorporating spatial information are suggested. The characteristic of this technique is that it is able to determine automatically the appropriate number of clusters without making any assumptions regarding the dataset. while attempting to provide globally near optimal solutions. In order to evolve the appropriate number of clusters, the chromosome encoding scheme is enhanced to incorporate the don't care symbol (#). Real-coded genetic algorithm with appropriatly defined operators is used. A cluster validity index is used as a measure of the value of the chromosomes. Results, both quantitative and qualitative are demonstrated for several images, including a satellite image of a part of the city of Mumbai. We present results on using this method for locating forest areas in high-resolution aerial images with very high reliability, achieving more than 95% accuracy, using raw radiometric channels as well as derived color and texture features. Region boundaries are obtained from a multi-scale hierarchical segmentation or from a registration of cadastral maps. Note de contenu : Introduction

[Termes IGN] vectorisationRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a unique approach for road extraction utilizing pixel spectral information for classification and image segmentation-derived object features was developed. In this approach, road extraction was performed in two steps. In the first step, support vector machine (SVM) was employed merely to classify the image into two groups of categories: a road group and a non-road group. For this classification, support vector machine (SVM) achieved higher accuracy than Gaussian maximum likelihood (GML). In the second step, the road group image was segmented into geometrically homogeneous objects using a region growing technique based on a similarity criterion, with higher weighting on shape factors over spectral criteria. A simple thresholding on the shape index and density features derived from these objects was performed to extract road features, which were further processed by thinning and vectorization to obtain road centerlines. The experiment showed the proposed approach worked well with images comprised by both rural and urban area features. [Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we propose to prove the importance of the application of blind sources separation methods on remote sensing data. Indeed, satellite images are represented by radiometric values where each one is considered as a mixture of different sources. The primary goal of our research is to hand back the different sources covering the scanned zone. The main constraint to restore these sources is to take our observation images as a mixture of physically independent components. In our work, the independence between the different sources is obtained through two statistical methods. The first method is based on the reduction of the spatial source correlations, and the second one is based on the joint maximization of the fourth-order cumulants. On the opposite of the original multispectral images that are represented according to correlated axes, the source images extracted from the proposed algorithms are represented according to mutually independent axes that allow each source to represent specifically a certain type of land cover. This increases the reliability of the analysis and the interpretation of the scanned zone. The source images obtained from the application of the sources separation method give a more effective representation of the information contained on the observation images. The performance of these source images is investigated through an application for the decomposition of mixed pixels. The originality of our application comes from the determination of the mixing matrix modeling the spectral endmembers based on source filters. These filters model the sensibility of each source channel according to the different spectral bands, which give an interesting information about the spectral theme represented by the corresponding source image. This application shows that the proportions of the different land cover types existing into the pixel are better estimated through the source images than through the original multispectral images. This method could offer an interesting solution to mixed-pixel classification.
