[Termes IGN] transmission de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Project FiRE (First Response Experiment), a disaster management technology demonstration, was performed in 2001. The experiment demonstrated the use of a thermal multispectral scanning imager, integrated on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), a satellite uplink/downlink image data telemetry system, and nearrealtime georectification of the resultant imagery for data distribution via the Internet to disaster managers. The FiRE demonstration provided geocorrected image data over a controlled burn to a fire management community in nearrealtime by means of the melding of new technologies. The use of the UAV demonstrated remotely piloted flight (thereby reducing the potential for loss of human life during hazardous missions), and the ability to "linger and stare " over the fire for extended periods of time (beyond the capabilities of humanpilot endurance). Improvements in a high temperature calibrated thermal imaging scanner allowed "remote" operations from a UAV and provided realtime accurate fire information collection over a controlled burn. Improved bitrate capacity telemetry capabilities increased the amount, structure, and information content of the image data relayed to the ground. The integration of precision navigation instrumentation allowed improved accuracies in georectification of the resultant imagery, easing data ingestion and overlay in a GIS framework. We present a discussion of the feasibility of utilizing new platforms, improved sensor configurations, improved telemetry, and new geocorrection software to facilitate wildfire management and mitigation strategies. [Termes IGN] propagation d'erreurRésumé : (Auteur) This paper revisits the basic mathematical formulation of orthoimage (digital orthophoto) generation. The main objective is to provide an approach for predicting the accuracy of an orthoimage, according to the accuracy of the digital elevation model (DEM), control points and image measurements, the configuration of fiducial, tie and control points, and the ground slope. The approach is based on applying the wellknown law of error propagation to the mathematical model of orthoimage generation. Although it may seem intuitive for professionals in the field of photogrammetry, such an approach is essential in the era when specialists in other fields use offtheshelf software packages for orthoimage generation. Simulations with the derived approach show that the accuracy of the orthoimage is more sensitive to errors in image measurement of fiducial, tie and control points and ground coordinates of control points, than to DEM errors. Nonstandard configurations of fiducial, tie and control points further impair the accuracy. In addition, certain combinations of point location and ground slope might lead to unacceptably large error on the orthoimage. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) With increasing use of geographic information sytems (GIS) true ortho-projections gain more and more importance. True ortho-images are geometrically correct and can be overlayed and intersected with GIS date sources of all kind. A complete true ortho-computation requires a detailed digital surface model as input, which can be collected by the airborne laser scanning approach. The sensor package of TopoSys GmbH allows for a simultaneaous collection of high resolution height and multispectral image data. Using the image data of the TopoSys linear array scanner true orthophotos in RGB and infrared are derived through processing of the LIDAR digital surface model. [Termes IGN] photographie aérienneRésumé : (Auteur) An orthophoto is a fundamental information source in forestry. Orthophoto production is usally based on digital elevation models (DEM) ; however, the elevations of 3D objects suchs as buildings and trees, which are visible in large-scale photos, are not included in DEMs. Recently initiated "true orthophoto" generation has been dedicated to urban scenes, removing the displacement caused by both the terrain and buildings. This paper reports an effort on reducing occlusion and distortion caused by trees in true orthoimage generation for forested areas. Canopy surface models (CMS) depicting both the terrain and tree surfaces were used in forest orthoimage production. Z-buffer techniques were incorporated into indirect orthoimage production to remove occlusion. An angle-based strategy was applied to composite multi-occular images. The proposed techniques were applied in the generation of high-resolution orthoimages of redwood stand with 1:2 400-scale aerial photos.
