[Termes IGN] savaneRésumé : (Auteur) Accurate and up-to-date information on forest dendrometric traits, such as above ground biomass is important in understanding the contribution of terrestrial ecosystems to the regulation of atmsopheric carbon, especially in the face of global environmental change. Besides, dendrometric traits information is critical in assessing the healthy and the spatial planning of fragile ecosystems, such as the savanna dry forests. The aim of this work was to test whether red-edge spectral data derived from WorldView-2 multispectral imagery improve biomass estimation in savanna dry forests. The results of this study have shown that biomass estimation using all Worldview-2 raw spectral bands without the red-edge band yielded low estimation accuracies (R2 of 0.67 and a RMSE-CV of 2.2 t ha−1) when compared to when the red-edge band was included as a co-variate (R2 of 0.73 and a RMSE-CV of 2.04 t ha−1). Also, similar results were obseved when all WorldView-2 vegetation indices (without the red-edge computed ones), producing slightly low accuracies (R2 of about 0.67 and a RMSE-CV of 2.20 t ha−1), when compared to those obtained using all indices and RE-computed indices(R2 of 0.76 and a RMSE-CV of 1.88 t ha−1). Overall, the findings of this work have demontrated the potential and importance of strategically positioned bands, such as the red-edge band in the optimal estimation of indigeonus forest biomass. These results underscores the need to shift towards embracing sensors with unique and strategeically positioned bands, such as the forthcoming Sentinel 2 MSI and HysPIRI which have a global footprint. [Termes IGN] photogrammétrie numériqueRésumé : (Auteur) Temporal analysis of Landsat-TM imageries reveals a saturated state of Kolkata (Calcutta) Metropolitan Area. However, the city has witnessed accelerated growth in real estate construction in recent past. This study applies digital photogrammetry to quantify the changes in Kolkata’s skyline. Recently, released SRTM DEM of 1 Arc Second and a digital surface model derived from WorldView-1 stereo images were used to account for the past and recent surface heights, respectively. Consequently, this paper examines whether the sustained addition in housing capacity has been necessarily driven by a growth in the urban population/number of households. Results show that 40.31% of the area experienced vertical growth, majorly by replacing older dwellings with taller apartment blocks. Further analysis reveals that part of these newly added residences has remained unoccupied as they were purchased by non-resident Indians for using as a second home or was never sold due to recent economic slowdown. [Termes IGN] résolution multipleRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, the authors investigate the statistical matching of the panchromatic (Pan) image to the multispectral (MS) bands, also known as the histogram matching, for the two main classes of pansharpening methods, i.e., those based on component substitution (CS) or spectral methods and those based on multiresolution analysis (MRA) or spatial methods. Also, hybrid methods combining CS with MRA, like the widespread additive wavelet luminance proportional (AWLP), are investigated. It is shown that all spectral, spatial, and hybrid methods must perform a dynamics matching of the enhancing Pan to the individual MS bands for MRA or a combination of them (the component that shall be substituted) for CS. For hybrid methods, the problem is more complex and both types of histogram matching may be suitable. Such an intersensor balance may be either explicit or implicitly performed by the detail-injection model, e.g., the popular projective and multiplicative injection models. An experimental setup exploiting IKONOS and WorldView-2 data sets demonstrates that a correct histogram matching is the key to attain extra performance from established methods. As a first result of this paper, the AWLP method has been revisited and its performance significantly improved by simply performing the histogram matching of Pan to the individual MS bands, rather than to the intensity component, thereby losing the original proportionality feature.
