[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This research examines the social-spatial dynamics of human-environment interactions in Evansville, Indiana, USA as well as the surrounding Vanderburgh County. Employing geographically weighted regression, this paper models the observed relationship between the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and key sociodemographic parameters (housing value, median household income, percent of residents in poverty, population density and percent of population white). Further, this paper demonstrates that geographically weighted regression utilized within a GISci framework can be effectively used to visualize urban human-environment interactions and that the spatial distribution of environmental resources co-varies with socioeconomic conditions. Finally, the paper demonstrates that greenness indicators derived from remote sensing data can be used as proxy measures for observed sociodemographic variables. [Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (Auteur) Tokat province is one of the least studied areas in Turkey. Updated spatial information about ferrous minerals (FM) and iron oxide (IO) is often required for studies focusing on environmental modelling, agriculture, and mining. In this study, FM and IO attributes of the province were assessed and mapped by evaluating Landsat-ETM+ satellite images. To avoid incorrect interpretations, dense plant or closed forest areas were determined using the normalized difference vegetative index, and excluded from the evaluation by masking. FM and IO index maps were produced using related algorithms and remote sensing tools. Classification and spatial analysis operations were conducted under the framework of Geographic Information Systems. A natural breaks method was employed for classification, and both indices were summarized in nine classes. The relationship between two index maps was investigated using a bi-variety correlation analysis. The correlation between two index maps (0.549) was found to be significant at the 1% level. Developed index maps were tested using ancillary data from previous studies in the area. The results were summarized at the administrative district level. [Termes IGN] surveillance de la végétationRésumé : (Auteur) The effects of climate change on northern vegetation productivity need to be fully understood in order to reduce uncertainties in predicting vegetation distributions under different climate warming scenarios. Knowledge of the relationship between northern climate and vegetation productivity will also help provide a better understanding of changes in vegetation distributions as an indicator of climate change and variability. Vegetation productivity and biomass have been monitored using long-term satellite earth observations, mostly using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), as a cumulative indicator of all effects resulting from processes related to climate change, including changes in temperature, precipitation, and disturbance. In this paper, the investigation is focused on the short-term effect of temperature anomalies on arctic and tree-line transition vegetation productivity in both dry and humid regions of Canada. The analysis shows that several land-cover types composed mainly of trees and shrubs exhibit a significant increase in NDVI with higher-than-normal temperatures in the preceding 10-40-day period, while land-cover types consisting of lichen and moss growing on mostly barren surfaces show a significant NDVI decrease with increased temperature. These trends are consistent with results reported in plot-warming experiments in the north, which have shown that certain vegetation communities increase, while others decrease in cover fraction and biomass in response to warming. When land cover is grouped into increasing and decreasing NDVI with temperature and stratified by dry and humid regions of Canada, much of the dry region of northern Canada does not exhibit significant NDVI response to preceding temperature anomalies. It is expected that in the absence of disturbance or other limiting factors, an increased frequency of elevated temperature anomalies may eventually contribute to changes in vegetation biomass. A map of land-cover types that have the potential to increase in biomass with climate warming and those that are vulnerable to decline is presented. [Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (Auteur) Latin American cities have witnessed rapid and unplanned growth causing social, economic and environmental problems. To solve these problems, urban planners require information and indicators that normally are not available. In this study, the applicability of remote sensing data to extract environmental data was examined. A Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM+) image was used to gather information about land surface temperature (Ts) and its relationship with the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and the Leaf Water Content Index (LWC). A strong negative relationship between Ts and NDVI and between Ts and LWC was observed. Analysis of variance points out statistically significant differences in the averages of Ts, NDVI, and LWC among neighbourhoods. Areas with high density housing, with a deficient urban design and those with commercial establishments had the lowest means of NDVI and LWC, and higher means of Ts. On the other hand, neighbourhoods with a higher proportion of trees and green zones had higher NDVI and LWC, and lower Ts. Finally, all neighbourhoods were classified into those that have lower to higher Ts. Therefore, the greening campaigns and new landscape design of the city should be directed specifically at neighbourhoods with the lowest level of NDVI or LWC.
