[Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a method of combining text and icon label placement in a real-time computing environment. The method computes label configurations based on placement properties, cartographic disturbance, and label overlap. The process is divided into four phases. In the first phase, candidate positions of the text labels are chosen. In the second phase, the same is done for the icon labels. The choice of candidate positions is based on cartographic preference and cartographic disturbance. The removal of overlap between labels is solved, in the third phase, by means of a combinatorial optimization technique (simulated annealing). When there are label pairs in conflict that could not be resolved, the fourth and final step is executed to remove one label in the pair. The success of the proposed method lies in the ability to effectively reduce the search space for the combinatorial optimization. A number of strategies for reducing search space have been evaluated in a case study. The results show that a good search-space-reduction strategy will lead to acceptable solutions for text and icon labeling within a limited processing time. [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) In this study, the efficiency of an integrated operational system, based on three satellite infrared techniques, to support nowcasting and very short range forecasting of high precipitation rates provided by a numerical weather prediction (NWP) model is examined. Three algorithms, one for the detection and tracking of convective cloud cells and another two for rainfall estimation, are applied on satellite sensor data in order to qualitatively and quantitatively verify the precipitation forecasts provided by a NWP model. The application of the detection and tracking algorithm aims at verifying qualitatively, in real time, the precipitation forecasts by monitoring the detected convective cloud cells, at the same time intervals that the model forecasts are given. The application of the rainfall estimation techniques on satellite sensor data is needed for both quantitative and qualitative crosscomparisons with the model outputs. The developed tool is applied in a case of intense precipitation over Greece. The results of the application are promising and show the potential for the implementation of the integrated system as a support tool for nowcasting and very short range forecasting by performing realtime validation of NWP precipitation forecasts. [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) The network-based GPS technique provides a broad spectrum of corrections to support RTK (real-time kinematic) surveying and geodetic applications. The most important among them are the ionospheric corrections generated in the reference network. The accuracy of these corrections depends upon the ionospheric conditions and may not always be sufficient to support ambiguity resolution (AR), and hence accurate GPS positioning. This paper presents the analyses of the network-derived ionospheric correction accuracy under extremely varying quiet and stormy geomagnetic and ionospheric conditions. In addition, the influence of the correction accuracy on the instantaneous (single-epoch) and on-the-fly (OTF) AR in long-range RTK GPS positioning is investigated, and the results, based on post-processed GPS data, are provided. The network used here to generate the ionospheric corrections consists of three permanent stations selected from the Ohio Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) network. The average separation between the reference stations was 200 km and the test baseline was 121 km long. The results show that, during the severe ionospheric storm, the correction accuracy deteriorates to the point when the instantaneous AR is no longer possible, and the OTF AR requires much more time to fix the integers. The analyses presented here also outline the importance of the correct selection of the stochastic constraints in the rover solution applied to the network derived ionospheric corrections.
