Proper planning is essential and requires data. Manually fabricating data that represent streets (street reconstruction) is error-prone and time consuming. Automatising street reconstruction is a challenge because of the diversity, size, and scale of the details (~ cm for cornerstone) required. The state-of-the-art focuses on roads and is strongly oriented by each application (simulation, visualisation, planning). We propose a unified framework that works on real Geographic Information System (GIS) data and uses a strong, yet simple hypothesis when possible to produce coherent street modelling at the city scale or street scale. Because it is updated only locally in subsequent computing, the result can be improved by adapting input data and the parameters of the model. We reconstruct the entire Paris streets in a few minutes and show how the results can be edited simultaneously by several concurrent users. [Termes IGN] transformation affineRésumé : (auteur) In a cartogram, the map elements are purposely modified with respect to an attribute. A time cartogram is a type of cartogram in which the geographic-distance between locations is replaced by a time-related attribute such as travelling-time, deforming the geography accordingly. This study concentrates on centred time cartograms that visualize travelling-times from a fixed starting location to other locations in the region. Several methods to construct time cartograms have been proposed, however these methods are not entirely satisfactory. In particular, none of them describes how to deform both the network and the map's boundaries based on travelling-times, which is necessary to maintain recognizability. In many cases, homeomorphism and topology are not maintained. The resultant maps from such methods are highly deformed and are difficult to read. Some of these methods are computationally demanding, while the procedures of others are not fully described. We present a method to construct time cartograms for the visual representation of scheduled movement data using the Dutch railways network as a case study. The method was developed by approaching the construction of time cartograms as a two-step process. In the first step, vector calculus is used to displace the train stations according to travelling-times from a fixed starting station. In the second step, moving-least-squares based affine deformation is applied to deform the railroads and the map's boundaries accordingly. To enhance understanding, concentric circles are drawn from the starting station to depict travelling-times. The method maintains homeomorphism and topology and yields time cartograms that are easily recognizable. [Termes IGN] SuèdeRésumé : (auteur) The amount of volunteered geographic information (VGI) has increased over the past decade, and several studies have been conducted to evaluate the quality of VGI data. In this study, we evaluate the completeness of the road network in the VGI data set OpenStreetMap (OSM). The evaluation is based on an accurate and efficient network-matching algorithm. The study begins with a comparison of the two main strategies for network matching: segment-based and node-based matching. The comparison shows that the result quality is comparable for the two strategies, but the node-based result is considerably more computationally efficient. Therefore, we improve the accuracy of node-based algorithm by handling topological relationships and detecting patterns of complicated network components. Finally, we conduct a case study on the extended node-based algorithm in which we match OSM to the Swedish National Road Database (NVDB) in Scania, Sweden. The case study reveals that OSM has a completeness of 87% in the urban areas and 69% in the rural areas of Scania. The accuracy of the matching process is approximately 95%. The conclusion is that the extended node-based algorithm is sufficiently accurate and efficient for conducting surveys of the quality of OSM and other VGI road data sets in large geographic regions. [Termes IGN] voie ferréeRésumé : (auteur) Track regularity is of vital importance in the safety of high speed railway operation. A laser tracker can collect highly accurate three-dimensional (3D) point measurements. Therefore, it is considered as a promising surveying technique for the detection of railway track static irregularity as opposed to using a total station. This study proposes a new approach that uses a laser tracker as the main sensor for obtaining the coordinates of left- and right-track points to detect potential track static irregularities. In this method, the reflecting target of the laser tracker is on a track inspection trolley moving in a round trip along the railway track. A field experiment was conducted to validate the results by comparing the results with the field measurements gathered using a track inspection trolley. The results show that the track static regularity detection method with laser trackers is feasible and indicate that track geometry parameters such as gauges, elevations and lateral deviations of centreline, superelevations, lateral profiles and vertical profiles obtained using the laser tracker and a track inspection trolley are in a good agreement. The average of deviations of track centreline elevations, lateral deviations, and gauges are 0·8, 0·7 and 0·3 mm.
