[Termes IGN] température de luminanceRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a new image reconstruction scheme is devised for estimating a high-resolution temperature map of the top of the earth's atmosphere using the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) imager infrared channels 4 and 5. By simultaneously interpolating the image while estimating temperature, the proposed algorithm achieves a more accurate estimate of the subpixel temperatures than could be obtained by performing these operations independently of one another. The proposed algorithm differs from other Bayesian-based image interpolation schemes in that it estimates brightness temperature as opposed to image intensity and incorporates a detailed optical model of the GOES multichannel imaging system. In order to test the effectiveness of the proposed technique, high-resolution estimates of cloudtop temperatures using GOES channels 4 and 5 are compared to temperature estimates obtained from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR). This test is achieved by examining sets of infrared data taken simultaneously by the GOES and AVHRR systems over the same geographic area. The AVHRR system collects longwave infrared data with a spatial resolution of 1km, which is higher than the 4km spatial resolution the GOES system achieves. In some cases, the estimated temperature differences between these systems are as high as 11.5 K. It is shown in this paper that the proposed algorithm improves the consistency between the cloudtop temperatures estimated with the GOES and AVHRR systems by allowing the GOES system to achieve substantially higher spatial resolution. [Termes IGN] simulation d'étalonnageRésumé : (Auteur) Spectroradiometric measurements were made over a range of crop canopy densities, soil backgrounds and foliage colour. The reflected spectral radiances were convoluted with the spectral response functions of a range of satellite instruments to simulate their responses. When Normalised Difference Vegetation Indices (NDVI) from the different instruments were compared, they varied by a few percent, but the values were strongly linearly related, allowing vegetation indices from one instrument to be intercalibrated against another. A table of conversion coefficents is presented for AVHRR, ATSR2, Landsat MSS, TM and ETM+, SPOT-2 and SPOT-4 HRV, IRS, IKONOS, SEAWIFS, MISR, MODIS, POLDER, Quickbird and MERIS (see Appendix A for glossary of acronyms). The same set of coefficients was found to apply, within the margin of error of the analysis, for the Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index SAVI. The relationships for SPOT vs. TM and for ATSR-2 vs. AVHRR were directly validated by comparison of atmospherically corrected image data. The results indicate that vegetation indices can be interconverted to a precision of 12%. This result offers improved opportunities for monitoring crops through the growing season and the prospects of better continuity of long-term monitoring of vegetation responses to environmental change. [Termes IGN] zone humideRésumé : (Auteur) Using a global simulation of L-band (1.4 GHz) brightness temperature (TB) for two years (1987 and 1988), the relationship between L(band brightness temperatures and surface soil moisture was analyzed using simple regression models. The global TB dataset describes continental pixels at a halfdegree spatial resolution and accounts for withinpixel heterogeneity, based on 1-km resolution land cover maps. Two different statistical methods were investigated. First, a single regression model was obtained using a linear combination of TB indexes. This method consisted in retrieving surface soil moisture using the same global regression model for all the pixels. Second, a regression model was calibrated over each pixel using similar linear combinations of the TB indexes. In both cases, the influence of the radiometric noise on TB was investigated. Applying these two methods, the capability ,of L-band TB observations to monitor surface soil moisture vas evaluated at the global scale and during a two-year time period. Global maps of the estimated accuracy of the soil moisture retrievals were produced. These results contribute to better define the potential of the observations from future spaceborne missions, such as the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission Numéro de notice : A2003-252 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1109/TGRS.2003.813492 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1109/TGRS.2003.813492 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22547

[Termes IGN] système expertRésumé : (Auteur) IKONOS 1 x 1 m panchromatic data fused with 4 X 4 m multispectral data were used for residential house detection in three 1 X 1 km study areas of Columbia, South Carolina. One study area contained houses built in the 1940s, another in the 1970s, and another in the 1990s. An expert system was developed to extract individual houses from the imagery. The system employed a data mining algorithm as the core of an automated knowledge acquisition module. Separate knowledge bases were generated for each study area using training samples and the data mining algorithm in two sequential stages. In the first stage, brightness values and NDVI yielded a knowledge base that was used to locate candidate house pixels. In the second stage, region metrics including size, shape, and a series of context variables were employed. Regions of asphalt roads mistakenly identified by the expert system as houses were removed using road buffers. Also, separate knowledge bases were generated both with and without the use of context variables. Each scenario was compared with a point map of photointerpreted (reference) houses. The photointerpreted database was verified against in situ housing counts. There was a strong increasing trend in both machine and photointerpreter accuracy as housing age decreased, with the highest accuracies (79 88%) in the 1990s study area.
