It covers geodetic control, deformation monitoring surveys, detail mapping, geometric modelling, setting-out, as-built surveys and total quality management (TQM). Recent advances include an integrative approach to: (1) combine measurements collected by geodetic and geotechnical systems including interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) in monitoring ground displacements and structural deformation at local and regional scales; (2) map geospatial data into computer aided design (CAD) formats and geographic information systems (GIS) by both conventional and mobile surveying systems; (3) collect as-built data of railway tracks and tunnels by positioning instruments, track sensors and laser scanners together; (4) incorporate Outsource Plan into the TQM system under ISO 9001:2008. [Termes IGN] traitement d'image radarRésumé : (Auteur) The objective of the research study is to use the synergy of 3D empirical (Rational Function Model (rfm) and physical (Toutin's) geometric models to develop a "new hybrid" model for the geometric processing of Radarsat-2 data without collecting ground control point (GCP). After independently evaluating the processing and the accuracy of each model using accurate differential GPS points, RFM was thus used to generate few "virtual" rfm points at the highest elevation of the study site. In addition to information of the metadata, these "virtual" points were input as GCPs in Toutin's model. This new hybrid model consistently achieved pixel accuracy, with better results for steep looking angles than the two other models. Its main advantage was, in addition, to be used without collecting GCP, increasing the applicability of Radarsat-2 data in remote areas. Together with TerraSAR-X, TanDEM-X forms a high-precision radar interferometer acquiring the data basis for a global homogeneous Digital Elevation Model of unprecedented quality, accuracy, and coverage. This unique dataset will be available for the entire land surface of the Earth from 2014 onwards. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a novel technique for automatic edge enhancement and detection in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The characteristics of SAR images justify the importance of an edge enhancement step prior to edge detection. Therefore, this paper presents a robust and unsupervised edge enhancement algorithm based on a combination of wavelet coefficients at different scales. The performance of the method is first tested on simulated images. Then, in order to complete the automatic detection chain, among the different options for the decision stage, the use of geodesic active contour is proposed. The second part of this paper suggests the extraction of the coastline in SAR images as a particular case of edge detection. Hence, after highlighting its practical interest, the technique that is theoretically presented in the first part of this paper is applied to real scenarios. Finally, the chances of its operational capability are assessed. [Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (Auteur) Adobe (sun-dried earth material) is a common prehistoric building material that had been widely used for several thousand years mainly in arid and semi-arid lands where generally other building materials are quite scarce. In particular, the earthen construction materials have a long history in Southern America and in the Andean prehistory of the Peruvian coast, where the hyper-arid climate has promoted an excellent preservation of archaeological adobe remains. The detection of buried earthen structures is particularly complex to perform due to the subtle contrast between the archaeological features and the surrounding areas. The use of Earth Observation (EO) to detect and document buried archaeological adobe structures can open new perspective but up to now it presents one of the major challenges to archaeological investigation. In this paper we present our preliminary results obtained from the assessment of the potentiality of satellite Very High Resolution (VHR) optical imagery and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) in detecting adobe archaeological setting. Satellite VHR imagery and GPR have been used for three significant test sites selected inside the Cahuachi Ceremonial Centre of the Nasca culture (Southern Peru) one of the most important archaeological area of ancient Peru. It is a remarkable example of adobe architecture in Southern America. The spatial extension of the archaeological site has been estimated as large as 25 square km, and this makes the Ceremonial Centre of Cahuachi the biggest in the world and gives a clear idea of the importance of the Nasca civilization. Results obtained from our experimental analysis pointed out the high potentiality of both satellite VHR and GPR when applied to detect, investigate, and document earthen archaeological remain.
