[Termes IGN] point d'appuiRésumé : Auteur) A complete interferometric SAR (InSAR) procedure for the generation of digital elevation models (DEMs) is described, stressing the InSAR geometric aspects. A new approach to transform the interferometric phases to terrain heights is presented, which aims at achieving an accurate geocoding of the InSARgenerated DEMs. It is based on a rigorous model that connects image space to object space and on a least squares (LS) calibration of the InSAR geometry with ground control points (GCPs). The procedure may include the fusion of data coming from ascending and descending pairs of SAR images. For this purpose, a simultaneous calibration of the geometry of different InSAR pairs is proposed. It allows reducing the number of required GCPs using tie points, in analogy with the photogrammetric procedures. The validation of two DEMs, one coming from an ascending ERS1 SAR pair and the other one derived by fusion of ascending and descending ERS1 data, is described paying attention to the atmospheric effects on the generated DEMs. Numéro de notice : A2002-296 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/S0924-2716(02)00107-7 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/S0924-2716(02)00107-7 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=80418

[Termes IGN] radargrammétrieRésumé : (Auteur) This paper shows results of digital elevation models (DEMs) generated from various RADARSAT stereopairs (fine, standard, extended) over three different topographic study sites (flattorolling, rollingtomountainous, mountainoustosteep) using 31) parametric modcling developed at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) and an automated image matching method. Reference topographic DEMs were first used to compute terrain slope and aspect and then to evaluate the accuracy of the stereoderived DEMs as a function of the slopes and aspects. The DEM accuracy was almost linearly correlated with the terrain slope, with the larger errors in the steepest slopes. In addition, the stronger the stereo radar geometry, the more heterogeneous the DEM is. For the aspect, the best and worse results generally occurred in the foreslopes and backslopes, respectively, and there is no specific trend in the azimuth. Finally, the more pronounced the relief, the higher the correlation between the elevation accuracy and the aspect is and the larger the variations of the elevation accuracy are. The analysis of the large amount of data shows that the relationship between the mean ° in decibel scale and the incidence angle in the range from 19° to 46° is usually well described by a linear model. In general, the RADARSAT and HUTSCAT results agree with each other, and they are also supported by theoretical backscattering model calculations; the more deformed the ice, the smaller the slope between ° and the incidence angle, and the higher the moisture content of snow or ice, the larger the slope. The derived ° incidence angle dependencies can be used to roughly compensate the ° incidence angle variation in the SAR images to help their visual and automated classification. The variability of T and T with the increasing incidence angle is insignificant compared to the variability within each ice type. Their average changes with the incidence angle are so small that, in practice, their trends do not need to be compensated. The results of this study can be utilized when developing classification algorithms for the RADARSAT ScanSAR and ENVISAT HH-polarization Wide Swath images of the Baltic Sea ice. [Termes IGN] objet fractalRésumé : (Auteur) The paper introduces a parametric model for the power spectrum density of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferograms. This model is derived by assuming the interferogram as a stationary frequency-modulated process and by exploiting the statistical description of earth topography provided by multifractal fields. Despite the small number of parameters involved (three to six in most cases), the model has been proven robust and accurate in most of the cases tested. In particular, the parametric probability distribution assumed for ground terrain slopes fitted the actual histogram (derived from existing digital elevation models) in a range of three to five decades. Applications to blind baseline estimation and phase unwrapping are then briefly discussed. [Termes IGN] trajectographie (positionnement)Résumé : (Auteur) In repeat-pass synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry, the aproximations, allowing the phase-to-eight conversion, prevent high-resolution mapped relief. In this paper, we present a more general and exact formulation giving a new relationship between the interferogram phase and the target height. It is based on the interferometric SAR geometry and on a better expansion of the path length difference between the sensor and the target. This formulation emphasizes the impact of baseline uncertainties on digital elevation model (DEM) accuracy. A quantitative assessment of the required baseline accuracy is computed. The impact of orbital parameters, used in the new formulation, on interferogram generation is studied. Thus, a new simulator algorithm is developed and tested on a set of reference and simulated DEM examples. Examples of interferogram simulation and DEM generation validate this new approach in the case of a mountainous area in Mustang (Nepal).
