[Termes IGN] polarimétrie radarRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we propose a novel scheme of polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image classification. We apply Laplacian eigenmaps (LE), a nonlinear dimensionality reduction (NDR) technique, to a high-dimensional polarimetric feature representation for PolSAR land-cover classification. A wide variety of polarimetric signatures are chosen to construct a high-dimensional polarimetric manifold which can be mapped into the most compact low-dimensional structure by manifold-based dimensionality reduction techniques. This NDR technique is employed to obtain a low-dimensional intrinsic feature vector by the LE algorithm, which is beneficial to PolSAR land-cover classification owing to its local preserving property. The effectiveness of our PolSAR land-cover classification scheme with LE intrinsic feature vector is demonstrated with the RadarSat-2 C-band PolSAR data set and the 38th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation X-band PolInSAR data set. The performance of our method is measured by the separability in the feature space and the accuracy of classification. Comparisons on the feature space show that the LE intrinsic feature vector is more separable than different original feature vectors. Our LE intrinsic feature vector also improves the classification accuracy. [Termes IGN] volume (grandeur)Résumé : (Auteur) In this paper, the long-term consecutive differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technique is used to measure the volume change during land deformation. This technique was used to investigate the subsidence of Bandung city, Indonesia, by assessing the data from two Japanese L-band spaceborne SARs (Japanese Earth Resources Satellite 1 SAR and Advanced Land Observation Satellite Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) during the periods of 1993-1997 and 2007-2010. The results are confirmed using GPS observation data, ground survey data, local statistics, ground water level trend data, and the geological formation of the study area. The obtained results reveal a close correlation between the subsidence measurements and changes in the ground water level due to water pumping, population growth, industry growth, and urbanization of the study area. [Termes IGN] surveillance écologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Within the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, multiplatform synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery is being used to aid post hurricane and postaccident response efforts in the Gulf of Mexico, such as in the case of the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The main areas of interest related to such disasters are the following: (1) to identify oil pipeline leaks and other oil spills at sea and (2) to detect man-made metallic targets over the sea. Within the context of disaster monitoring and response, an innovative processing chain is proposed to observe oil fields (i.e., oil spills and man-made metallic targets) using both Land C-band full-resolution and fully polarimetric SAR data. The processing chain consists of two steps. The first one, based on the standard deviation of the phase difference between the copolarized channels, allows oil monitoring. The second one, based on the different symmetry properties that characterize man-made metallic targets and natural distributed ones, allows man-made metallic target observation. Experiments, accomplished over single-look complex L-band Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) and C-band RADARSAT-2 fully polarimetric SAR data gathered in the Gulf of Mexico and related to the Deepwater Horizon accident, show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Furthermore, the proposed approach, being able to process both Land C-band fully polarimetric and full resolution SAR measurements, can take full benefit of both the ALOS PALSAR and RADARSAT-2 missions, and therefore, it allows enhancing the revisit time and coverage which are very critical issues in oil field observation. [Termes IGN] Tohoku (Japon)Résumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an overview of crustal deformation caused by the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake, detected by GEONET (GPS Earth Observation Network), the GPS continuous observation system operated by the GSI, and by interferometric SAR (InSAR) analysis using ALOS/PALSAR data. We found that a very wide area of the Japanese Islands, from Hokakido to the Kinki district, was remarkably affected by the crustal deformation caused by the mainshock of the Tohoku Earthquake. We estimated the geometry of the seismogenic fault of the earthquake, as well as the slip model for the plate boundary between the Pacific plate and the North American plate, from the crustal deformation data obtained from GEONET. The fault is estimated to be longer than 400 km, stretching from off Iwate Prefecture in the north to off Ibaraki Prefecture in the south. The largest slip estimate for the plate boundary is more than 56 m in the off-Miyagi region near the Japan Trench. Postseismic crustal deformation is also observed by GEONET, indicating that slow postseismic slip is ongoing along the plate boundary around the main fault zone. Additionally, we detected clear coseismic signals associated with induced inland earthquakes in the Fukushima-Hamadori area from InSAR analysis. The InSAR results show obvious displacement discontinuities, suggesting that rather shallow ruptures occurred. In particular, for the Mj 7.0 event on April 11, the observed displacement boundaries correspond to earthquake surface ruptures that appeared just along the Idosawa and Yunotake faults. [Termes IGN] loi de WishartRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes the use of Deterministic Simulated Annealing (DSA) for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image classification for cluster refinement. We use the initial classification provided by the maximum-likelihood classifier based on the complex Wishart distribution that is then supplied to the DSA optimization approach. The goal is to improve the classification results obtained by the Wishart approach. The improvement is verified by computing a cluster separability coefficient. During the DSA optimization process, for each iteration and for each pixel, two consistency coefficients are computed taking into account two kinds of relations between the pixel under consideration and its neighbors. Based on these coefficients and on the information coming from the pixel itself, it is re-classified. Several experiments are carried out to verify that the proposed approach outperforms the Wishart strategy. We try to improve the classification results by considering the spatial influences received by a pixel through its neighbors. Finally, a link about the contribution of DSA to thematic mapping is also established.
