[Termes IGN] trajectoire (véhicule non spatial)Résumé : (Auteur) Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry has been used in a growing number of diverse applications across different scientific disciplines. Early applications of UAVs included cultural heritage and archaeology, mainly for the documentation and modelling of monuments, buildings and landscapes. In this paper, the focus is on the application of UAVs for documenting archaeological excavations. As excavating is a dynamic process and the objects to be acquired can change significantly within a few hours, UAVs can provide a suitable alternative to traditional measurement methods such as measuring tapes and tachymeters. Nevertheless, the image processing steps have to be automated, as a large number of resulting materials, usually sketches, maps, ortho-images and 3D models, need to be available quickly. In order to accelerate the processing workflow, an interface between the UAV ground control software and various photogrammetric software packages was developed at ETH Zurich, which allows for an efficient management and transfer of orientation, trajectory and sensor data for rapid project set up. But that's not always feasible. [...] At a static site, with an unchanging multipath environment, the signal reflection geometry repeats day to day and the effect of multipath can be reduced by sidereal filtering or "stacking" of coordinate or carrier-phase-residual time series. However, this approach is not viable for scenarios where the receiver and antenna are moving such as in machine control applications. Here an alternative approach is needed. In this month's column, I am joined by two of my UNB colleagues as we look at a technique that uses a pair of antennas on a moving vehicle together with a sophisticated mathematical model, to reduce the level of multipath on carrier-phase observations and thereby improve the accuracy of the vehicle's position. [Termes IGN] trajectoire (véhicule non spatial)Résumé : (Auteur) Low-altitude images acquired by unpiloted aerial vehicles have the advantages of high overlap, multiple viewing angles and very high ground resolution. These kinds of images can be used in various applications that need high accuracy or fine texture. A novel approach is proposed for parallel processing of low-altitude images acquired by unpiloted aerial vehicles, which can automatically fly according to predefined flight routes under the control of an autopilot system. The general overlap and relative rotation angles between two adjacent images are estimated by overall matching with an improved scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) operator. Precise conjugate points and relative orientation parameters are determined by a pyramid-based least squares image matching strategy and the relative orientation process. Bundle adjustment is performed with automatically matched conjugate points and interactively measured ground control points. After this aerial triangulation process the high-resolution images can be used to advantage in obtaining precise spatial information products such as digital surface models, digital orthophotomaps and 3D city models. A parallel processing strategy is introduced in this paper to improve the computational time of the photogrammetric process. Experimental results show that the proposed approaches are effective for processing low-altitude images, and have high potential for the acquisition of spatial information at large mapping scales, with rapid response and precise modelling in three dimensions. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Enormous quantities of trajectory data are collected from many sources, such as GPS devices and mobile phones, as sequences of spatio-temporal points. These data can be used in many application domains such as traffic management, urban planning, tourism, bird migration, and so on. Raw trajectory data, as generated by mobile devices have very little or no semantics, and in most applications a higher level of abstraction is needed to exploit these data for decision making. Although several different methods have been proposed so far for trajectory querying and mining, there are no software tools to help the end user with semantic trajectory data analysis. In this article we present a software architecture for semantic trajectory data mining as well as the first software prototype to enrich trajectory data with both semantic information and data mining. As a prototype we extend the Weka data mining toolkit with the module Weka-STPM, which is interoperable with databases constructed under OGC specifications. We tested Weka-STPM with real geographic databases, and trajectory data stored under the Postgresql/PostGIS DBMS. [Termes IGN] trajectographie par DORISRésumé : (Auteur) DIODE (DORIS Immediate Orbit on-board Determination) is a real-time on-board orbit determination software, embedded in the DORIS receiver. The purpose of this paper is to focus on DIODE performances. After a description of the recent DORIS evolutions, we detail how compliance with specifications are verified during extensive ground tests before the launch, then during the in-flight commissioning phase just after the launch, and how well they are met in the routine phase and today. Future improvements are also discussed for Jason-2 as well as for the next missions. The complete DORIS ground validation using DORIS simulator and new DORIS test equipments has shown prior to the Jason-2 flight that every functional requirement was fulfilled, and also that better than 10 cm real-time DIODE orbits would be achieved on-board Jason-2. The first year of Jason-2 confirmed this, and after correction of a slowly evolving polar motion error at the end of the commissioning phase, the DIODE on-board orbits are indeed better than the 10 cm specification: in the beginning of the routine phase, the discrepancy was already 7.7 cm Root-Mean-Square (RMS) in the radial component as compared to the final Precise Orbit Ephemerides (POE) orbit. Since the first day of Jason-2 cycle 1, the real-time DIODE orbits have been delivered in the altimetry fast delivery products. Their accuracy and their 100% availability make them a key input to fairly precise Near-Real-Time Altimetry processing. Time-tagging is at the microsecond level. In parallel, a few corrections (quaternion problem) and improvements have been gathered in an enhanced version of DIODE, which is already implemented and validated. With this new version, a 5 cm radial accuracy is achieved during ground validation over more than Jason-2 first year (cycles 1–43, from July 12th, 2008 to September 11th, 2009). The Seattle Ocean Surface Topography Science Team Meeting (OSTST) has recommended an upload of this v4.02 version on-board Jason-2 in order to take benefit from more accurate real-time orbits. For the future, perhaps the most important point of this work is that a 9 mm consistency is observed on-ground between simulated and adjusted orbits, proving that the DORIS measurement is very precisely and properly modelled in the DIODE navigation software. This implies that improvement of DIODE accuracy is still possible and should be driven by enhancement of the physical models: forces and perturbations of the satellite movement, Radio/Frequency phenomena perturbing measurements. A 2-cm accuracy is possible with future versions, if analysis and model improvements continue to progress.
