The global TB dataset describes continental pixels at a halfdegree spatial resolution and accounts for withinpixel heterogeneity, based on 1-km resolution land cover maps. Two different statistical methods were investigated. First, a single regression model was obtained using a linear combination of TB indexes. This method consisted in retrieving surface soil moisture using the same global regression model for all the pixels. Second, a regression model was calibrated over each pixel using similar linear combinations of the TB indexes. In both cases, the influence of the radiometric noise on TB was investigated. Applying these two methods, the capability ,of L-band TB observations to monitor surface soil moisture vas evaluated at the global scale and during a two-year time period. Global maps of the estimated accuracy of the soil moisture retrievals were produced. These results contribute to better define the potential of the observations from future spaceborne missions, such as the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission Numéro de notice : A2003-252 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1109/TGRS.2003.813492 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1109/TGRS.2003.813492 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22547

[Termes IGN] turbidité des eauxRésumé : (Auteur) Remote sensing techniques can be used to monitor water quality parameters (i.e., suspended sediments (turbidity), chlorophyll, and temperature). Optical and thermal sensors on boats, aircraft, and satellites provide both spatial and temporal information needed to monitor changes in water quality parameters for developing management practices to improve water quality. Recent and planned launches of satellites with improved spectral and spatial resolution sensors should lead to greater use of remote sensing techniques to assess and monitor water quality parameters. Integration of remotely sensed data, GPS, and GIS technologies provides a valuable tool for monitoring and assessing waterways. Remotely sensed data can be used to create a permanent geographically located database to provide a baseline for future comparisons. The integrated use of remotely sensed data, GPS, and GIS will enable consultants and natural resource managers to develop management plans for a variety of natural resource management applications. [Termes IGN] température de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) Multiple satellite sensors are used to analyze physical processes that determine energy fluxes and their interaction at the urban surface. The study is based on summertime microclimate analyses of the Los Angeles and Paris metropolises. The method consists of deriving some parameters governing the surface heat fluxes, constructing statistics of thermal infrared images, and using a GIS to combine them with a landcover classification from SPOTHRV multispectral images, and with data from intensive insitu experiments. The average images reveal spatial and temporal variations of land surface temperature (LST), and distinct microclimatic patterns. The combined interpretation of the statistics images and of the landcover classification shows: (i) the effect of surface physical properties, especially in downtown business and industrial districts that display heatislands larger than 7°C; (ii) the temperating influence of water; (iii) the negative correlation between afternoon land surface temperature and normalized vegetation index, which confirms the cooling effect of urban parks; (iv) the correlation between variations of surface temperature and ozone concentration at diurnal and longer time scales. [Termes IGN] température de surface de la merRésumé : (Auteur) The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for the Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) was developed and provided to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's EOS Aqua satellite by the National Space Development Agency of Japan, as one of the indispensable instruments for Aqua's mission. AMSR-E is a modified version of AMSR that was launched December 2002 aboard the Advanced Earth Observing Satellite-II (ADEOS-II). It is a six-frequency dual-polarized total-power passive microwave radiometer that observes water-related geophysical parameters supporting global change science and monitoring efforts. The hardware improvements over existing spaceborne microwave radiometers for earth imaging include the largest main reflector of its kind and addition of 6.925-GHz channels. These improvements provide finer spatial resolution and the capability to retrieve sea surface temperature and soil moisture information on a global basis. This paper provides an overview of the instrument characteristics, mission objectives, and data products.
