[Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) Key-frame selection methods were developed in the past years to reduce the complexity of frame processing in visual odometry (VO) and visual simultaneous localization and mapping (VSLAM) algorithms. Key-frames help increasing algorithm's performances by sparsifying frames while maintaining its accuracy and robustness. Unlike current selection methods that rely on many heuristic thresholds to decide which key-frame should be selected, this paper proposes a photogrammetric-based key-frame selection method built upon ORB-SLAM3. The proposed algorithm, named Photogrammetric Key-frame Selection (PKS), replaces static heuristic thresholds with photogrammetric principles, ensuring algorithm’s robustness and better point cloud quality. A key-frame is chosen based on adaptive thresholds and the Equilibrium Of Center Of Gravity (ECOG) criteria as well as Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) observations. To evaluate the proposed PKS method, the European Robotics Challenge (EuRoC) and an in-house datasets are used. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations are made by comparing trajectories, point clouds quality and completeness and Absolute Trajectory Error (ATE) in mono-inertial and stereo-inertial modes. Moreover, for the generated dense point clouds, extensive evaluations, including plane-fitting error, model deformation, model alignment error, and model density and quality, are performed. The results show that the proposed algorithm improves ORB-SLAM3 positioning accuracy by 18% in stereo-inertial mode and 20% in mono-inertial mode without the use of heuristic thresholds, as well as producing a more complete and accurate point cloud up to 50%. The open-source code of the presented method is available at https://github.com/arashazimi0032/PKS. Twelve topographical, hydrological and geological factors were considered. The mapping process was done with and without feature selection (FS) conducted by integration of SVR model with GA, BBO and SA algorithms. The accuracy of these models was evaluated using the area under receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) curve. Comparisons among the models uncovered that the SVR-RBF-GA and SVR-RBF-BBO models performed better than the SVR-RBF-SA. The AUROC for two mentioned models were 0.964 and 0.996 in training and testing runs, respectively, while this metric was 0.953 and 0.986 for SVR-RBF-SA model in training and testing runs, respectively. The results showed that after FS, the models are more accurate in test data than train data. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (auteur) In the case of tree species delineation with very high spatial resolution (VHR) images, is desirable that each segment corresponds to one individual tree crown (ITC). However, in order to have a segmentation algorithm that generates segments matching to ITCs, its parameters ought to be properly tuned. Aiming to avoid time-consuming trial-and-error procedures associated with this task, some initiatives for the automatic search of segmentation parameters have been developed, such as metaheuristic methods. The objective of this work was to test the automatic tuning of segmentation parameters of three segmentation algorithms for the delineation of ITCs belonging to a native endangered species in a subtropical forest area, comparing this method with the traditional trial-and-error approach. Two datasets (WorldView-2 and an orthoimage) and three segmentation algorithms (multiresolution, mean-shift and graph-based) were tested. For the automatic approach, a hybrid metaheuristic method was applied to accomplish the automatic search of parameters for the segmentation algorithms, while for the trial-and-error, a visual assessment was conducted for each set of parameters tested. Four supervised metrics were used to assess the quality of the segmentation results for the optimization approach and for the final set of parameters chosen in the trial-and-error approach. Results showed that none of the algorithms, datasets or approaches differ too much. The evaluation metrics values were lower, indicating that the reference ITCs polygons matched with the segmentation results. Despite the similar results, the automatic tuning of segmentation parameters proved to be a feasible alternative to reduce the subjectivity and the human effort in the choice of segmentation parameters as compared to the trial-and error approach. [Vedettes matières IGN] AltimétrieRésumé : (auteur) The first objective of this paper is to assess by means of geodetic network analyses the impact of adding model-based hydrodynamic leveling data to the Unified European Leveling Network (UELN) data on the precision and reliability of the European Vertical Reference Frame (EVRF). In doing so, we used variance information from the latest UELN adjustment. The model-based hydrodynamic leveling data are assumed to be obtained from not-yet existing hydrodynamic models covering either all European seas surrounding the European mainland or parts of it that provide the required mean water level with uniform precision. A heuristic search algorithm was implemented to identify the set of hydrodynamic leveling connections that provide the lowest median of the propagated height standard deviations. In the scenario in which we only allow for connections between tide gauges located in the same sea basin, all having a precision of 3 cm, the median of the propagated height standard deviations improved by 38% compared to the spirit leveling-only solution. Except for the countries around the Black Sea, coastal countries benefit the most with a maximum improvement of 60% for Great Britain. We also found decreased redundancy numbers for the observations in the coastal areas and over the entire Great Britain. Allowing for connections between tide gauges among all European seas increased the impact to 42%. Lowering the precision of the hydrodynamic leveling data lowers the impact. The results show, however, that even in case the assumed precision is 5 cm, the overall improvement is still 29%. The second objective is to identify which tide gauges are most profitable in terms of impact. Our results show that these are the ones located in Sweden in which most height markers are located. The impact, however, hardly depends on the geographic location of the tide gauges within a country. Although dozens of methods have been proposed, current techniques suffer from two main shortcomings: the quality of the produced road networks is still far from those produced manually, and the methods are slow, making them not scalable to large inputs. In this paper, we present a fast four-step density-based approach to construct a road network from a set of trajectories. A key aspect of our method is the use of an improved version of the Slide method to adjust trajectories to build a more compact density surface. The network has comparable or better quality than that of state-of-the-art methods and is simpler (includes fewer nodes and edges). Furthermore, we also propose a split-and-merge strategy that allows splitting the data domain into smaller regions that can be processed independently, making the method scalable to large inputs. The performance of our method is evaluated with extensive experiments on urban and hiking data.
