[Termes IGN] modèle non linéaireRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, a robust unscented Kalman filter (UKF) based on the generalized maximum likelihood estimation (M-estimation) is proposed to improve the robustness of the integrated navigation system of Global Navigation Satellite System and Inertial Measurement Unit. The UKF is a variation of Kalman filter by which the Jacobian matrix calculation in a nonlinear system state model is not necessary. The proposed robust M–M unscented Kalman filter (RMUKF) applies the M-estimation principle to both functional model errors and measurement errors. Hence, this robust filter attenuates the influences of disturbances in the dynamic model and of measurement outliers without linearizing the nonlinear state space model. In addition, an equivalent weight matrix, composed of the bi-factor shrink elements, is proposed in order to keep the original correlation coefficients of the predicted state unchanged. Furthermore, a nonlinear error model is used as the dynamic equation to verify the performance of the proposed RMUKF with a simulation and field test. Compared with the conventional UKF, the impacts of measurement outliers and system disturbances on the state estimation are both controlled by RMUKF. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Airborne laser scanning (ALS) is a reliable source of accurate information for forest stand inventory attributes including height, cover, basal area, and volume. The commonly applied area-based approach (ABA) allows the derivation of wall-to-wall geospatial coverages representing each of the modeled attributes at a grid-cell level, with spatial resolutions typically between 20 and 30 m. The ABA predictive models are developed using stratified inventory data from field plots, the requirement for which can increase the overall cost of the ALS-based inventory. Parsimonious use of ground plots is a key means to control variable costs in the operational implementation of the ABA. In this paper, we demonstrate how the prediction accuracy of Lorey's height (HL, m), quadratic mean diameter (QMD, cm), and gross volume (V, m3) vary when existing ABA models are transferred to different areas or are applied to point cloud data with different characteristics than those on which the original model was developed. Specifically, we consider three scenarios of model transferability: (i) same point cloud characteristics, different areas; (ii) different point cloud characteristics, same areas; and (iii) different point cloud characteristics, different areas. We generated area-based models using three modeling approaches: linear regression (OLS), random forests (RF), and k-nearest neighbour (kNN) imputation. Results indicated that the prediction accuracy of area-based models varied by attribute and by modeling approach. We found that when the models were transferred their prediction accuracy decreased, with an average increase in relative bias up to 22.04%, and increase in relative RMSE up to 29.31%. [Termes IGN] varianceRésumé : (auteur) Although ridge tracing has the advantages of continuity and high positioning accuracy compared with other edge-based methods, it is difficult to use ridge tracing to extract coastlines from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images because of the speckle noise that occurs in SAR images. This paper presents a new coastline extraction method for SAR images based on a more robust ridge tracing method. First, according to the statistical properties of the pixel intensities in the land and sea regions in a SAR image, an edge magnitude map that characterizes the boundary between them is produced by the ratio of the variance to the mean such that the magnitude at the land-sea boundary is much higher than that at other locations. Second, the pixel with the maximum magnitude in the map is adopted as the starting point for tracing, and strip windows, which reduce tracing failures, are adopted to obtain different average magnitudes corresponding to the eight neighborhood pixels around the starting point. Then, the neighborhood pixel with the maximum magnitude is adopted as the next tracing point. The above procedure is repeated to determine the direction of the next point. This process achieves part of the tracing operation. The complete coastline is then extracted by performing the other part of the tracing operation. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more robust than traditional methods, and we demonstrate its effectiveness with RADARSAT-2 and Sentinel-1A data. Automated architectural symmetry detection (ASD) from a data source is not only an intriguing inquiry in its own right, but also a step towards creation of semantically rich building and city information models with applications in architectural design, construction management, heritage conservation, and smart city development. While recent advances in sensing technologies provide inexpensive yet high-quality architectural 3D point clouds, existing methods of ASD from these data sources suffer several weaknesses including noise sensitivity, inaccuracy, and high computational loads. This paper aims to develop a novel derivative-free optimization (DFO)-based approach for effective ASD. It does so by firstly transforming ASD into a nonlinear optimization problem involving architectural regularity and topology. An in-house ODAS (Optimization-based Detection of Architectural Symmetries) approach is then developed to solve the formulated problem using a set of state-of-the-art DFO algorithms. Efficiency, accuracy, and robustness of ODAS are gauged from the experimental results on nine sets of real-life architectural 3D point clouds, with the computational time for ASD from 1.4 million points only 3.7 s and increasing in a sheer logarithmic order against the number of points. The contributions of this paper are threefold. Firstly, formulating ASD as a nonlinear optimization problem constitutes a methodological innovation. Secondly, the provision of up-to-date, open source DFO algorithms allows benchmarking in the future development of free, fast, accurate, and robust approaches for ASD. Thirdly, the ODAS approach can be directly used to develop building and city information models for various value-added applications. This study aims to identify requirements, key constraining factors and solutions for robust and complete detection of Mowing Events. Remote sensing is a powerful tool to monitor and investigate Near-Real-Time and seasonally PG cover. Here, pros and cons of Sentinel-2 (S2) and Sentinel-1 (S1) time series exploitation for Mowing Events (MowEve) detection are analysed. A deep-based approach is proposed to obtain consistent and homogeneous biophysical parameter times series for MowEve detection. Recurrent Neural Networks are proposed as regression strategy allowing the synergistic integration of optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar data to reconstruct dense NDVI times series. Experimental results corroborates the interest of deriving consistent and homogeneous series of biophysical parameters for subsequent MowEve detection.
