Le projet est fondé sur l'analyse et la cartographie d'un corpus de récits de vie de républicains espagnols ; il s'intéresse à la migration sous l'angle des lieux décrits par les migrants dans les récits de leur vie. Le corpus a été transcrit puis annoté en lieux (noms propres et lieux génériques) et sentiments (polarité) afin de constituer des corpus d'apprentissage et de validation pour la reconnaissance des lieux et des sentiments associés. Des modèles d'apprentissage automatique pour la reconnaissance automatique des noms de lieux génériques ont été entrainés. Les sentiments associés aux lieux seront inférés à partir d'un lexique de sentiments analysé en contexte. La représentation vise une cartographie des informations sensibles liées aux lieux. An analysis on the volatility of places and points-of-interest (POIs) is presented. We examine how named features behave and change in terms of type, name and location. The challenge is to understand the behavior and consequently the fitness-for-purpose of OSM data when it comes to a possible use and integration with authoritative datasets. We show that, depending on the OSM feature type, the volatility can vary considerably and we elucidate which feature types are consistent, and thus could be used in authoritative gazetteers despite their grassroots nature and if there are spatial patterns behind the location changes of features during their lifespan. In this work, we deal with a spoken corpus of life stories and a crowd-sourced Web corpus of people's contributions related to urban planning issues in their city. Located information constitutes an essential component in these corpora. Toponyms refer to official names (e.g. Congo) which are listed in gazetteers but often to generic locations such as un endroit très beau (a beautiful place). Because of the nature of the corpora, these generic locations are inherently subjective, vague and descriptive. For enabling automated exploitation of these texts, it is crucial to properly detect such kinds of place mentions. In this sense, the present work provides a comparative study of state-of-art NER systems, most importantly of supervised tools such as Stanford NER, for the identification of generic locations in thematic corpora. Heathlands are prized for their condition of remarkable landscapes, biodiversity reservoirs and cultural heritage areas. A strong decline of heathland cover has taken place in Atlantic Europe during the last centuries, as land use changes toward more productive systems. Galicia retains a high proportion of heathland cover, but there is a trend of land use transformation to forest plantations and improved pastures. Place names rooted with vernacular names of heathers (Erica, Calluna and Daboecia genera, Ericaceae) were recorded in a geo-referenced database. We applied spatial statistics to account for correlation between heath toponym density and present-day heathland distribution. We did not find such correlation, but differences were found for altitudinal ranks, suggesting a wider habitat loss at lowlands than at mountain areas. We discuss the possibilities of a systematic use of toponymic databases in historical landscape reconstruction. This paper is about identifying toponyms in these titles. The toponym tracking is based on gazetteers as well as light parsing according to patterns. The method used broadens the definition of the toponym to include the nature of the corpus and the data in it. It consists of seven successive stages where both the extralinguistic context – in this case toponym georeferencing – and the linguistic context are taken into account. Mistakes in tagging are analyzed from the corpus characteristics and the results of each step tagging are evaluated (recall, precision, F-measure). Different conclusions can be suggested: (i) toponym recognition in web corpora should take into account spelling changes, (ii) toponym recognition cannot be limited to gazetteer proper nouns, (iii) the notion of subjective toponym is relevant in this specific corpus, and could be considered with reference to the customization of maps.
