[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) In a localised step by step approach of cartographic generalisation, one of the algorithms applied to roads consists in displacing or distorting a road segment in order to solve coalescence or overlap conflicts. To maintain topological relationships, the displacement has to be propagated to neighbouring objects, in a cushioned way. Algorithms of cushioned propagation that operates through the network (propagation computed depending of the curvilinear distance) have two drawbacks: they can result in topological errors and only the topologically connected objects are considered for propagation. In this paper we study another approach for the cushioned propagation of displacements, that operates as the crow flies instead of operating through the network. The propagation is initiated by one or more initiator objects that are either displaced or distorted. The cushioned propagation on neighbouring objects is computed with regard to their distance as the crow flies to the initiators. The paper details the algorithm and discusses obtained results. [Termes IGN] relation topologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This work defines and compares three quantitative content measures of topological relations between spatial objects that consider metric refinements with respect to relative size, distance, and degree of overlapping. These content measures use minimum bounding rectangles (MBRs) as simplified views of spatial objects in order to create an efficient mechanism for characterizing the topological content of spatial configurations. A framework for comparing content measures is presented, which is based on the linear correlation between two similarity rankings : (1) a similarity ranking defined in terms of the distance of content-measure values and (2) a similarity ranking defined in terms of the error of the geometric adjustment between pairs of objects. The linear correlation between similarity rankings is used as indicator of how well the defined content measures characterize topological relations. Such kind of content measures can provide mechanisms for creating efficient methods to describe and access information on the basis of the topological content of spatial configurations. The points are computed from intersections of lines that are surveyed with GPS. The lines are computed by least squares estimation. Further, the suggested method estimates the precision of the points. When using laser scanning a similar problem appears. A laser scanner captures a 3D point cloud, not the points of real interest. The suggested method can be used to compute three-dimensional coordinates of the intersection of three planes estimated from the point cloud. The method can also be used to predict the precision of the points prior to a survey. An example is given. With the goal being to model possible movement within the built environment, this paper, therefore, proposes a new approach to handling connectivity relationships among 3-D objects in urban environments in order to implement spatial access analyses in 3-D Npace. To achieve this goal, this paper introduces a 3-D network data model called the geometric network model (GNM), which has been developed by transforming the combinatorial data model (CDM), representing a connectivity relationship among 3-D objects using a dual graph. For the transformation, this paper presents (1) an O(n2) algorithm for computing a straight medial axis transformation (MAT), (2) the processes for transforming phenomena from 3-D CDM to 3-D GNM, and (3) spatial access algorithms for the 3-D geometric network based upon the Dijkstra algorithm. Using the reconstructed geometric network generated from the transformations, spatial queries based upon the complex connectivity relationships between 3-D urban entities are implemented using Dijkstra algorithm. Finally, the paper presents the results of an experimental implementation of a 3-D network data model (GNM) using GIS data of an area in downtown Columbus, Ohio. However, what was fundamentally missing from the research circle was the study of a methodology for processing and representation of linearly referenced features in the temporal context, or temporal dynamic segmentation. This paper dissects the functional specifications of temporal dynamic segmentation. The authors start by exploring the definition and characteristics of dynamic segmentation. The scope of dynamic segmentation is extended to include two functional categories and three essential functions. The paper then defines spatiotemporal segment and a spatiotemporal join operation, which are the building blocks and the key mechanism behind temporal dynamic segmentation. A set of metric criteria for identifying spatiotemporal segment topologies are proposed as an effective alternative to the more general, but more costly, frameworks for the identification of topological relationships. The authors finally present functional specifications of the three essential functions of dynamic segmentation.
