[Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) We study the continuous evaluation of spatial join queries and extensions thereof, defined by interesting combinations of sensor readings (events) that co-occur in a spatial neighborhood. An example of such a pattern is “a high temperature reading in the vicinity of at least four high-pressure readings”. We devise protocols for ‘in-network’ evaluation of this class of queries, aiming at the minimization of power consumption. In addition, we develop cost models that suggest the appropriateness of each protocol, based on various factors, including selectivity of query elements, energy requirements for sensing, and network topology. Finally, we experimentally compare the effectiveness of the proposed solutions on an experimental platform that emulates real sensor networks. [Termes IGN] relation topologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Topological relationships between spatial objects such as overlap, disjoint, and inside have for a long time been a focus of research in a number of disciplines like cognitive science, robotics, linguistics, artificial intelligence, and spatial reasoning. In particular as predicates, they support the design of suitable query languages for spatial data retrieval and analysis in spatial database systems and Geographic Information Systems. While conceptual aspects of topological predicates (like their definition and reasoning with them) as well as strategies for avoiding unnecessary or repetitive predicate evaluations (like predicate migration and spatial index structures) have been emphasized, the development of correct and efficient implementation techniques for them has been rather neglected. Recently, the design of topological predicates for different combinations of complex spatial data types has led to a large increase of their numbers and accentuated the need for their efficient implementation. The goal of this article is to develop efficient implementation techniques of topological predicates for all combinations of the complex spatial data types point2D, line2D, and region2D, as they have been specified by different authors and in different commercial and public domain software packages. Our solution is a two-phase approach. In the exploration phase, for a given scene of two spatial objects, all topological events like intersection and meeting situations are recorded in two precisely defined topological feature vectors (one for each argument object of a topological predicate) whose specifications are characteristic and unique for each combination of spatial data types. These vectors serve as input for the evaluation phase which analyzes the topological events and determines the Boolean result of a topological predicate or the kind of topological predicate. This paper puts an emphasis on the exploration phase and the definition of the topological feature vectors. In addition, it presents a straightforward evaluation method. [Termes IGN] relation topologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) High-resolution (HR) remote-sensing images allow us to access new kinds of information. Classical techniques for image analysis, such as pixel-based classifications or region-based segmentations, do not allow to fully exploit the richness of this kind of images. Indeed, for many applications, we are interested in complex objects which can only be identified and analyzed by studying the relationships between the elementary objects which compose them. In this paper, the use of a spatial reasoning technique called region connection calculus for the analysis of HR remote-sensing images is presented. A graph-based representation of the spatial relationships between the regions of an image is used within a graph-matching procedure in order to implement an object detection algorithm. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) The Fuzzy Kappa statistic expresses the agreement between two categorical raster maps. The statistic goes beyond cell-by-cell comparison and gives partial credit to cells based on the categories found in the neighborhood. When matching categories are found at shorter distances the agreement is higher. Like the well-established Kappa statistic the Fuzzy Kappa statistic expresses the mean agreement relative to the expected agreement. The model underlying the expected agreement assumes absence of spatial autocorrelation in both compared maps. In reality however, spatial autocorrelation does lower the expected agreement as matching categories become less likely to be found close-by. Since most maps have some degree of spatial autocorrelation, the calculated expected agreement is generally higher than the true expected agreement. This leads to counterintuitive results when maps that appear to have considerable agreement obtain negative Fuzzy Kappa values. Furthermore, the Fuzzy Kappa may be biased, as it systematically attributes lower agreement to maps with stronger spatial autocorrelation. This paper proposes an improved Fuzzy Kappa statistic that is based on the same local agreement and has the same attractive properties as the original Fuzzy Kappa. The novelty is that the new statistic accounts for spatial autocorrelation, such that the expected Fuzzy Kappa for maps that are not cross-correlated is equal to zero. The improved statistic is applied on two cases to demonstrate its properties.
