[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Many real and artificial entities in geographic space, such as transportation networks and trajectories of movement, are typically modelled as lines in geographic information systems. In a similar fashion, people also perceive such objects as lines and communicate about them accordingly as evidence from research on sketching habits suggests. To facilitate new modalities like sketching that rely on the similarity between qualitative representations, oftentimes multi-resolution models are needed to allow comparisons between sketches and database scenes through successively increasing levels of detail. Within such a setting, topology alone is sufficient only for a coarse estimate of the spatial similarity between two scenes, whereas metric refinements may help extract finer details about the relative positioning and geometry between the objects. The nine-intersection is a topological model that distinguishes 33 relations between two lines based on the content invariant (empty–non-empty intersections) among boundaries, interiors, and exteriors of the lines. This paper extends the nine-intersection model by capturing metric details for line–line relations through splitting ratios and closeness measures. Splitting ratios, which apply to the nine-intersection's non-empty values, are normalized values of lengths and areas of intersections. Closeness measures, which apply to the nine-intersection's empty values, are normalized distances between disjoint object parts. Both groups of measures are integrated into compact representations of topological relations, thereby addressing topological and metric properties of arbitrarily complex line–line relations. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a new method for the combination of 2D GIS vector data and 2.5D DTM represented by triangulated irregular networks (TIN) to derive integrated triangular 2.5D object-based landscape models (also known as 2.5D-GIS-TIN) is presented. The algorithm takes into account special geometric constellations and fully exploits existing topologies of both input data sets, it “sews the 2D data into the TIN like a sewing-machine” while traversing the latter along the 2D data. The new algorithm is called radial topology algorithm. We discuss its advantages and limitations, and describe ways to eliminate redundant nodes generated during the integration process. With the help of four examples from practical work we show that it is feasible to compute and work with such integrated data sets. We also discuss the integrated data models in the light of various general requirements and conclude that the integration based on triangulations has a number of distinct advantages. [Termes IGN] relation topologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Formalization of topological relations between spatial objects is an important aspect of spatial representation and reasoning. The well-known 9-Intersection Method (9IM) was previously used to characterize topological relations between simple regions, i.e. regions with connected boundary and exterior. This simplified abstraction of spatial objects as simple regions cannot model the variety and complexity of spatial objects. For example, countries like Italy may contain islands and holes. It is necessary that existing formalisms, 9IM in particular, cover this variety and complexity. This paper generalizes 9IM to cope with general regions, where a (general) region is a non-empty proper regular closed subset of the Euclidean plane. We give a complete classification of topological relations between plane regions. For each possible relation we either show that it violates some topological constraints and hence is non-realizable or find two plane regions it relates. Altogether 43 (out of 512) relations are identified as realizable. Among these, five can be realized only between exotic (plane) regions, where a region is exotic if there is another region that has the same boundary but is not its complement. For all the remaining 38 relations, we construct configurations by using sums, differences and complements of discs.
