[Termes IGN] segmentation sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) Building footprint is a primary dataset of an urban geographic information system (GIS) database. Therefore, it is essential to establish a robust and automated framework for large-scale building extraction. However, the characteristic of remote sensing images complicates the application of the instance segmentation method based on the Mask R-CNN model, which ought to be improved toward extracting and fusing multi-scale features. Moreover, open-source satellite image datasets with wider spatial coverage and temporal resolution than high-resolution images may exhibit different coloration and resolution. This study proposes a large-scale building extraction framework based on super-resolution (SR) and instance segmentation using a relatively lower-resolution (>0.6 m) open-sourced dataset. The framework comprises four steps: color normalization and image super-resolution, scene classification, building extraction, and scene mosaicking. We took Hyogo Prefecture, Japan (19,187 km2) as a test area and extracted 1,726,006 (29.12 km2) of the 3,301,488 buildings (32.46 km2), where the number of buildings and footprint area increased by 3.0 % and 5.0 % respectively. The result indicated that the color normalization and image super-resolution could improve the visual quality of open-source satellite images and contribute to building extraction accuracy. Moreover, the improved Mask R-CNN based on Multi-Path Vision Transformer (MPViT) backbone achieved F1 scores of 0.71, 0.70, 0.81, and 0.67 for non-built-up, rural, suburban, and urban areas, respectively, which is better than those of the baseline model and other mainstream instance segmentation approaches. This study demonstrates the potential of acquiring acceptable building footprint maps from open-source satellite images, which has significant practical implications. [Termes IGN] vision par ordinateurRésumé : (auteur) Mobile mapping, in particular, Mobile Lidar Scanning (MLS) is increasingly widespread to monitor and map urban scenes at city scale with unprecedented resolution and accuracy. The resulting point cloud sampling of the scene geometry can be meshed in order to create a continuous representation for different applications: visualization, simu- lation, navigation, etc. Because of the highly dynamic nature of these urban scenes, long term mapping should rely on frequent map updates. A trivial solution is to simply replace old data with newer data each time a new acquisition is made. However it has two drawbacks: 1) the old data may be of higher quality (resolution, precision) than the new and 2) the coverage of the scene might be different in various acquisitions, including varying occlusions. In this paper, we propose a fully automatic pipeline to address these two issues by formulating the problem of merging meshes with different quality, coverage and acquisition time. Our method is based on a combined distance and visibility based change detection, a time series analysis to assess the sustainability of changes, a mesh mosaicking based on a global boolean optimization and finally a stitching of the resulting mesh pieces boundaries with triangle strips. Finally, our method is demonstrated on Robotcar and Stereopolis datasets. [Termes IGN] OpenStreetMapRésumé : (auteur) The SLEUTH model provides a framework for understanding land use evolution around urban areas. Calibration of SLEUTH’s behavioral coefficients can be impacted by scale and nonlinear transitions due to the SLEUTH land use deltatron module’s assumption of linear Markov change probabilities. This study attempted to establish what spatial resolution and temporal scale produces the most accurate forecasts given the linear change assumption. The impact of tiling the input data was also examined. To determine these, SLEUTH was calibrated at four spatial and three temporal scales for Ibadan, Nigeria using both untiled and tiled data. Calibration results were evaluated using accuracy metrics including Figure of Merit (FOM) and mean uncertainty. The best mix of calibration metrics (FOM 0.26) and mean uncertainty (11.64) was achieved at 30 m resolution and an intermediate temporal interval. Tiling input data led to overfitting, allowing good model fit within individual tiles but a reduction in trend recognition across land use types. Subsequently, a 2040 projection that is as accurate as possible, and scientifically justifiable given the available data, was produced. The findings provide a framework for understanding the effect of spatiotemporal scale on SLEUTH inputs that require tiling particularly for urban areas in the global south. [Termes IGN] temps instantanéRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents a feature descriptor using Histogram of Oriented Mosaic Gradient (HOMG) that extracts spatial-spectral features directly from mosaic spectral images. Spectral imaging utilizes unique spectral signatures to distinguish objects of interest in the scene more discriminatively. Snapshot spectral cameras equipped with spectral filter arrays (SFAs) capture spectral videos in real time, making it possible to detect/track fast moving targets based on spectral imaging. How to effectively extract the spatial-spectral feature directly from the mosaic spectral images acquired by snapshot spectral cameras is a core issue for detection/tracking. So far, there is a lack of comprehensive and in-depth research on this issue. To this end, this paper proposed a new spatial-spectral feature extractor for mosaic spectral images. The proposed scheme finds two forms of SFA neighborhood (SFAN) to construct a feature extractor suitable for any SFA structure. Exploiting the spatial-spectral correlation in two SFANs, we design six mosaic spatial-spectral gradient operators to compute spatial-spectral gradient maps (SGMs). HOMG descriptors are constructed using the magnitude and orientation of SGMs. The effectiveness and generalizability of the proposed method have been verified with object tracking experiments. Compared to the state-of-the-art feature descriptors, HOMG ranked first on two datasets captured with snapshot spectral camera with different SFAs, achieving a gain of 3.9% and 5.9% in average success rate over the second-ranked feature.
