[Termes IGN] tessellationRésumé : (Auteur) The abstraction, representation, and computation of entity–space relationship are keystones of geographic information science (GIS). The newly proposed spatial chromatic tessellation (SCT) provides a novel model to explore this relationship. SCT has demonstrated a variety of potential applications in GIS, such as reasoning spatial topology, point pattern analysis, and Voronoi diagrams. This study aims to theoretically investigate SCT by focusing on two aspects: (1) extending SCT to higher dimensional spaces. Results show that cells missing in lower dimensional spaces are hidden in higher dimensional spaces; (2) exploring the uniqueness of chromatic codes, particularly the chromatic codes of 2-cell and 3-cell clusters: their codes are proved to be unique. In a mathematical perspective, the observed phenomena from the above two aspects bring some new thoughts into the first law of geography and spatial heterogeneity. Based on these new understandings of entity–space relationship, SCT is replaced by spatial chromatic model (SCM) in which spaces are created by entities themselves rather than by partitioning the space preexisted. This makes a change from an absolute geographic space to a relative geographic space. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (auteur) Virtual 3D city models provide powerful user interfaces for communication of 2D and 3D geoinformation. Providing high quality visualization of massive 3D geoinformation in a scalable, fast, and cost efficient manner is still a challenging task. Especially for mobile and web-based system environments, software and hardware configurations of target systems differ significantly. This makes it hard to provide fast, visually appealing renderings of 3D data throughout a variety of platforms and devices. Current mobile or web-based solutions for 3D visualization usually require raw 3D scene data such as triangle meshes together with textures delivered from server to client, what makes them strongly limited in terms of size and complexity of the models they can handle.
This paper introduces a new approach for provisioning of massive, virtual 3D city models on different platforms namely web browsers, smartphones or tablets, by means of an interactive map assembled from artificial oblique image tiles. The key concept is to synthesize such images of a virtual 3D city model by a 3D rendering service in a preprocessing step. This service encapsulates model handling and 3D rendering techniques for high quality visualization of massive 3D models. By generating image tiles using this service, the 3D rendering process is shifted from the client side, which provides major advantages: (a) The complexity of the 3D city model data is decoupled from data transfer complexity (b) the implementation of client applications is simplified significantly as 3D rendering is encapsulated on server side (c) 3D city models can be easily deployed for and used by a large number of concurrent users, leading to a high degree of scalability of the overall approach. All core 3D rendering techniques are performed on a dedicated 3D rendering server, and thin-client applications can be compactly implemented for various devices and platforms.

[Termes IGN] mosaïquage d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) Mosaic generation is a central tool in various fields ranging way beyond the scope of photogrammetry and requires the radiometry and color of the images to be corrected. Correction can either be done by a global parametric approach (looking for an optimal gain or gamma for each image of the mosaic), or by iteratively correcting image pairs with a non-parametric approach. Such non-parametric approaches allow for much finer correction but are asymmetric, i.e. they require the choice of a source image that will be corrected to match a target image. Thus the result on the whole mosaic will be very dependant on the order in which images are corrected. In this paper, we propose to use partial iterates to symmetrize non-parametric correction in order to solve this problem. Partial iterates formalize what partially applying a bijective function means and we explain how this can be done in both the continuous and discrete domain. This mechanism is applied to a simple non-parametric approach (histogram transfer of the luminance) to show its potential. [Termes IGN] orthophotoplan numériqueRésumé : (Auteur) A novel method for establishing a seamline network for orthomosaic generation is presented. The seamline network determines the regions of the mosaic allocated to each of the original images. Our method allows for optimal network vertices to be selected while avoiding a combinatorial optimisation task. The computational requirements (time and storage) of our proposed method are linear in the number of images. Seamlines between vertices are found using a graph-based approach which finds shortest paths, subject to a constraint which minimises the maximum cost of any single edge. Experiments on synthetic and real-world data sets illustrate the value of the approach compared to naïve vertex selection and recently proposed methods. Note de contenu : Introduction
