[Termes IGN] mosaïquage d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) A practically based user-friendly methodology to accurately georeference and colour balance Corona photographs for large area coverages without compro-mising information content by downgrading their high spatial resolution is presented. Tapping on a range of techniques provided in the Erdas Imagine environment, the procedures laid out in this paper go a step further than normal software guidelines by providing improvised techniques that are graphically illustrated by reference to a study area (the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana) covering about 65000km to allow the reader to assimilate the sequence of steps involved. With self evident usable results in the form of a 2m-resolution seamless mosaic providing blanket coverage for the above stated area on 15 September 1967, it is apparent that similar initiatives elsewhere can take advantage of our proposed methodology in putting together what is retrievable from the archives by building databases that extend time horizons into the historical past for use in long-term environmental monitoring. [Termes IGN] valeur radiométriqueRésumé : (Auteur) Pleiades is the highest resolution civilian earth observing system ever developed in Europe. This imagery program is conducted by the French National Space Agency, CNES. It will operate in 2009-2010 two agile satellites designed to provide optical images to civilian and defense users. Images will be simultaneously acquired in Panchromatic (PA) and multispectral (XS) mode, which allows, in Nadir acquisition condition, to deliver 20 km wide, false or natural colored scenes with a 70 cm ground sampling distance after PA+XS fusion. Imaging capabilities have been highly optimized in order to acquire along-track stereo pairs and triplets, multi-targets and mosaics. The automatic orthomosaic product is the most ambitious innovation of the PHR ground image processing. Starting from an overview of the system characteristics enabling acquisition suitable for mosaic, this paper presents the geometric, radiometric and topological issues of the automatic ortho-mosaic and then focuses on the processing flow. It details the different steps: strategy, bundle adjustment, DEM refining, radiometric adjustment, seam line computation, a helped and quick image quality check and finally mosaic rectification. The process capabilities are illustrated with different sensor images. And finally the ortho-mosaic product content is described. [Termes IGN] polygone de ThiessenRésumé : (Auteur) Sampling satellite images presents some specific characteristics : images overlap and many of them fall partially outside the studied region. A careless sampling may introduce an important bias. This paper illustrates the risk of bias and the efficiency improvements of systematic, pps (probability proportional to size) and stratified sampling. A sampling method is proposed with the following criteria: (a) unbiased estimators are easy to compute; (b) it can be combined with stratification; (c) within each stratum, sampling probability is proportional to the area of the sampling unit; and (d) the geographic distribution of the sample is reasonably homogeneous. Thiessen polygons computed on image centres are sampled through a systematic grid of points. The sampling rates in different strata are tuned by dividing the systematic grid into subgrids or replicates and taking for each stratum a certain number of replicates. The approach is illustrated with an application to the estimation of the geometric accuracy of Image2000, a Landsat ETM+ mosaic of the European Union. [Termes IGN] régressionRésumé : (Auteur) Cloud-free optical satellite imagery simplifies remote sensing, but land-cover phenology limits existing solutions to persistent cloudiness to compositing temporally resolute, spatially coarser imagery. Here, a new strategy for developing cloud-free imagery at finer resolution permits simple automatic change detection. The strategy uses regression trees to predict pixel values underneath clouds and cloud shadows in reference scenes from other scene dates. It then applies improved histogram matching to adjacent scenes. In the study area, the islands of Puerto Rico, Vieques, and Culebra, Landsat image mosaics resulting from this strategy permit accurate detection of land development with only spectral data and maximum likelihood classification. Between about 1991 and 2000, urban/built-up lands increased by 7.2 percent in Puerto Rico and 49 percent in Vieques and Culebra. The regression tree modeling and histogram matching require no manual interpretation. Consequently, they can support large volume processing to distribute cloud-free imagery for simple change detections with common classifiers.
