[Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (Auteur) Sea ice concentration (SIC) is an important sea ice parameter for sea ice navigation, environmental research, and weather and ice forecasting. We have developed and tested a method for estimation of the Baltic Sea SIC using SENTINEL-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 passive microwave radiometer (MWR) data. Here, we present the method and results for January 2016. Ice concentration grids of Finnish Meteorological Institute daily ice charts have been used as reference data in this paper. We present a comparison of four SIC estimation methods with our reference data. In addition to the combined SAR/MWR SIC estimation method, we also compare SIC estimates produced using SAR alone and two MWR-based methods. The main target of this paper was to develop and test a high-resolution SIC estimation method suitable for operational use. [Termes IGN] variable visuelleRésumé : (Auteur) On the basis of initial studies devoted to a better understanding of how the public user (a pedestrian in the city) perceives cartographic symbols in the mobile augmented reality system, we present an attempt to determine the threshold values of differentiation for three visual variables. The variables of size, transparency, and focus were implemented into image point symbols representing five types of objects. The set of symbols was designed in accordance with the rules of cartographic design taking into consideration an analysis of 19 professional tourist works. The symbols were presented on the screen of a mobile device in a system imitating the augmented reality system against four different backgrounds: white, a wall, and two typical urban landscapes. The results of an internet survey conducted using a tablet at four locations in Poznan (Poland) allowed us to determine the following: threshold differentiation values for the analysed variables, indication of the dependence on the type of background displayed on the mobile device in augmented reality, and the advantage of using a combination of visual variables. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (Auteur) Trajectory analysis is of crucial importance in several fields as social analysis, zoology, climatology or traffic monitoring. Over the last decade, the number of mobile systems and devices recording their positions has grown significantly generating a deluge of spatial and temporal data to analyze. This increasing volume of data raises numerous issues in terms of storage, processing and extraction of information. Previous works considering movement analysis have been mainly oriented towards either archived data processing and mining or continuous handling of incoming streams. The research developed in this paper introduces the design principles of a holistic approach combining real-time processing and archived data analysis to process mobility data “on the fly”. This solution aims to provide better results comparing to both purely offline and online approaches. This research considers distributed data and processing to be more efficient. The design principles are applied to maritime traffic analysis and a few representative examples are introduced to demonstrate the relevance of our approach. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) With the growing popularization of small crafts, the accidents that happen among such crafts are also drawing increasing attention, according to the marine accident data released by the Japan Coast Guard. In order to prevent possible navigation accidents, the authors considered that besides sharing information from land by the coast office broadly, managers on land can also watch out and give appropriate advice for operators in crafts one-to-one. This paper discusses the technical issues of developing virtual globe-based (Google Maps/Earth geographic information system (GIS)) 3D visualization stand-alone software for small craft navigation assistance in the aim to facilitate the safety and sufficiency of small crafts in the near sea. The system was developed using web services and object-oriented programming disciplines to support the integration of a virtual global framework, GPS, and real-time imaging data. The authors have also developed data processing programs that are glued together with C# language, JavaScript language, National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) instance data, and keyhole markup language (KML) data. Experiments for evaluating the framework have been made around the near coastal area. The performances and deficiencies are discussed in this paper. In order to evaluate the validity of the performance and the functionality of the system, authors conducted a questionnaire survey among third year students of the Voyage Course at Kobe University. The evaluation of the system suggests valuable potential for the small craft navigation assistance system.
